Air conditioning leak

Hello all,

I'm after a bit of advice. I went to have an air conditioning re-gas today at an indy and was advised that there's a leak in the system somewhere, most probably within the compressor (I'm going back next week to have this verified and a report written). Any ideas if this is likely to be covered under the BMW Mondial ccomprehensive warranty (mine has a £250 excess), as there's no mention specifically within the documentation? Has anyone had any similar experiences? A replacement compressor is around £1000 from BMW plus fitting wich is rather a lot!

Thanks

Simon

I would have thought it must be a seal/o'ring or damage to pipe/cooling rad. BMW's warranty excludes seals so that isn't good if that's the case.

Did they do a smoke test?

Also do you use air con all year round or is the car/air con not used for any length of time, as no use of air con can dry out seals causing leaks.

Thanks for the reply. The indy wants to re-check for leaks next week after the re-gas to be sure it's coming from the compressor and then write his report. Can't say at the moment if it's a seal or something else though. He did say a reconditioned unit is around £350 + fitting which is better, but I'm hoping the warranty will cover it. I only drive around 5000 miles a year in the zed, but always have the air con on. Not sure about the previous owner, though.
