Air Con

My zed has climate control. Pretty much in two years of ownership I haven't had to touch it. Set to noon position and auto. A couple of weeks ago, my car went for MOT. No issues apart from rears getting a little tight on tread. However whoever worked on my car had fiddled with the aircon :headbang: Didn't think a great deal about it, often the seats are moved radio adjusted etc whilst people have worked on my cars down the years. Just put it back to noon and pressed auto. But now the interior seems to just carry on heating up. I've had to turn the vents off and put the temp really low but it still gets too warm to be comfortable on a longer journey. What on earth could they have done to have caused this?? I've thought of going back obviously but I cannot prove it started whilst the car was in their care.

I'm afraid there's no option other than for you to sit in the car with the instruction book!

We can't see any of your settings nor which model you have.

Sorry, that might help! 2.5Si Sport 2007 E85. Just popped out and took a pic of my usual settings.

Not that I recall, mmm-five. But when I was adjusting the settings when I had started overheating inside I turned that on and it had no effect.

I actually am struggling to find where the hot air is coming from. Even though I've closed the vents on the dash it didn't feel like the hot air was coming from them.

You need the snowflake button pressed if you want cold... I have the Auto re-circ button pressed to on mine - the one below with an A in the centre of the circle.

Pretty much all year round I have the temp set at about 19, I only set it where you've got it when the roof is down and it's cold because I find it too warm otherwise... 22 degrees is not cold, and with temps being reasonably low right now the car will try hard to heat itself up to that temperature. Weird one though :?

22 would have me asleep. That will be pumping out hot air regardless of AC on or off.

18-20would be more comfortable.

The air conditioning is only on when the Snowflake is illuminated. Otherwise it's just a heater pumping air through it.

The snowflake indicates that your compressor is available to cool the air, however it will still only kick in when needed. Set the temp to something like 14 degs with the snowflake on and give it a few minutes. If you’re getting no cool air through at this point, then your system may need recharging. Ie it's low on refrigerant gas, not sure what they use these days.

Cheers for the advice, I'll give those settings a go, and also try for a blast of cool air on my next significant journey.

If snowflake doesn't work the car maybe in transport mode, if so the you need to get the car coded to deactivate it.

Why not try it now even if just tickin' over on the drive? :o

If you haven' t used the aircon for some time, the seals will dry out and the system will leak, necessitating a recharge - if this has happened it'll be difficult to get it chilly :). Mine is always on to ensure seals stay fine..

OK, curiosity got the better of me and I went out for a play!

Auto ON, Snowflake ON, Recirculate ON, vents all open.

If I switch the temp control to the lowest possible setting, I'm blasted by an ice cold hurricane. If I notch it up a single click, this all disappears totally. Doesn't get hot though. I moved it to 20, and can feel warm air coming out, at a trickle. It doesn't get uncomfortably hot though. I need to see if the engine heat through driving changes this at all. Some relief I guess that the system is operable ie it can generate cold air instantly.

Some feedback on this took the car for its first decent run since, 2 x 20 miles and quite a nice warmish day. It's quite bizarre but with the temp knob turned to near coldest well into the blue section it is comfortable and I could feel cooling coming through. Quite why or how this happened and the parameters have gone slightly loopy I'll probably never discover.
