Took my Z4 to Bimmer Magic Wizards in Worthing the other day. Was hoping they could clear my air bag light that has been ON for ages now. MoT is due soon :x

Unfortunately the guy there couldn't clear the light from coming on. He connected up his laptop with the correct software, etc. But no luck.

It kept showing up the fault as 'warning lamp'. He said my whole air bag system was working fine with no faults. Just the on dash warning lamp was at fault. HELP!

Does this mean I need to remove the instrument cluster? Is it possible to renew the lamp/bulb?? :(

Any comments much appreciated.

The guy at Worthing did a couple of jobs with success for me.
Arming my alarm with the remote now also beeps and indicators flash.
Plus I can open and close the roof with key remote. :)

The chap used INPA for diagnostics and NCS for coding.

Hope this helps?.........I look forward to your reply.

All this error diagnostic & coding malarkey using a laptop goes right over my head I'm afraid.

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers,
Kev.

I had problems with my airbag system just before selling my Z and did quite a lot of checks using a C110 reader.
I suspect the Air bag system is faulty and its unfortunately a fairly common fault. The fault is easily reset using any diagnostic tool but if it reappears after reset the control system or a sensor is at fault. Again the diagnostic should point to a faulty sensor.
The control unit sits behind the handbrake under the centre console.
The bad news is that it could be a pricey dealer fix as the control unit will need coded to the car. :(

Search airbag on the forum and you will get more idea how many other Z owners have been affected
