Hi,

I have an airbag light on.

Scanned with INPA, and im getting a fault code '93DB Step up converter defective'

I cant find any information on google about this particular fault code, can anyone shed any light ?

It will not reset.

Here are the logs:

Thanks in advance.

Pull up the carpet by each seat where the air bag modual is fitted.

I'd wager you will have soaking carpet and a knackered satilight box.

Thanks for the reply! Do you mean the occupancy sensor in the passenger seat? Have you seen this error code before?

No I mean the air bag modules, part number "3", they normally fail when the carpet gets wet and never drys out:

You could check the seat sensor and restraints also.

Right ok, i will check them. However when i log into the satelite pillars, there are no faults codes?

Have you seen that fault code before ? No-one seems to have heard of it on any forums, or local garages ? Its really odd. Im thinking the main control module under the armrest/tunnel trim.

Thanks

Not seen any codes just know some weak spots...I have a side and centre control boxes spare if you find one thats duff...not sure if they different thou.

lovely, booked into local garage, hopefully they will come up with a different code!!

Hi There!

I have the same error code, what was it with your car?
You solved the problem or bmw workshop did?

Hopeful for an answer :)

Dirty connections are likely the issue due to a difference in voltage that the electronics are expecting and what is being seen. The increased resistance created by the dirty connection is the culprit. The electronics see this as a "fault" condition....as documented by the INPA readouts above. This was the case with my airbag fault. Cleaning the connectors/connections under the seat is a good start (disconnect the battery otherwise other faults will be introduced and need to be cleared by the dealer if you don't have INPA.) In my specific case, it was the single wire connection in the battery compartment of my 2004 3.0i that caused the issue. BMW Tech cleaned that connection/cleared the fault and all has been good for the past 1.5 years. Since that time Ive purchased software/cable and spent hours looking at the electronics/connections due to another issue .... love INPA and NCS Expert..... that I was able to resolve. I also have likely the cleanest connections/connectors of all the Z4's worldwide.....

I had exactly the same issue, and it was the main airbag control module under the tunnel/arm rest. Tried everything else before that.

I think you have to take a lot out to get to it. Specialist did mine. Cheers.

If it is a module this company is worth a try to reset - done twice on my wife's beetle cabriolet after her module corrupted due to having a weak battery in the winter. http://www.crashdata.co.uk/mobile/default.aspx

If it's the passenger module I have a new one which I'm happy to sell at £80, they are over £200 new

The modules for each side have changed regularly over the life of the Z the are specific to the model and each side of the vehicle multiple part numbers).
I suspect your control unit is knackered.
When does the light come on and have you been able to reset with a soft reset tool?
If it is the control unit 5-600 quid + coding at a BM dealer its a very sore experience :|

Its behind the handbrake and you can Jack the connections in and out with our a total strip of the centre console. However to remove it need the rear centre console removed and main centre console loosened.
Been there done it
