Air bag light on continously

Hi all I have had this light on for a few weeks now. I have finally got to the bottom of it, we stowed some sweets in the compartment in between the rear of the seats. The sweets have melted and run onto the plug which plugs into the module in the housing directly behind the handbrake. I am now in the process of cleaning up this sticky mess, I will try and get rid of as much as I can then see what happens. If the module has been damaged my local bm garage has told me that the module is approx. £750 to buy plus fitting costs ouch .

Let's hope it can be cleaned up, if not, search for a used on the net, might get lucky for GBP 75 or?

I'm no expert and I'm sure someone else will be along to confirm this but airbag modules are not plug and play. They need to be coded to the vehicle. Make sure you check fully before splashing any cash out.

After cleaning up, hopefully a diagnostic reset will clear it away. Otherwise a second hand module should work but may need to be coded to the car. I would be surprised if you got anywhere near the £750 for the repair with used parts.

This is no may about it... it definitely needs coding if you fit a new one. Not difficult to do though via any decent indy or yourself if you have the software.

I was told by the repair garage that a second hand one will not work it has to be new does nyone know if this is true ??

I just had one fitted yesterday at the zed shed. Coded to my car with his software, ista I think it was. I had the airbag warning light since I bought the car a couple of years ago. All fine now. The one I got had the facility in it for deactivating passenger air bag but mine didnt. That's what the software said but now it's all coded to my car and all OK

I recently purchased a 2nd hand module from Ebay depending on the module required prices range from £60-£100. Double check your part number as the original part number for my module had been superseded.

Had the same issue with mine, well the ECU, not the sweets! Take a look :) https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1536570#p1536570

Hi Kis many thanks for the link, when the sweets were melting I was blissfully unaware that there was a ecu module directly below I well and truly know now. I have had a professional diagnostic check done and it choses there is no comms coming out of the ecu. And in fairness to the said garage they virtually diagnosed the problem before putting a test on it. But they also told me that I had to buy a new ecu and that a second hand one definitely would not work, they wanted to charge me £750plus vat for the module and a fitting charge on top. At that point I decided to thank them for their efforts paid them for what they had done and went home to think about it.

Good job too! That’s extortionate! :o
Mine was all done for around £75 including the module (eBay) and then coding afterwards. That’s 10% !!

Hi all I have finally got the air bag module out it, and indeed it is a sticky mess. Any ideas as to what I can use to clean the module and the plug, I am currently trying nail varnish remover which seems to be quite effective
