Great start to Easter, I drive to Dent Magic to get a quote for the side door to have some stone chips removed and created a bigger job

Got out of the car thinking the handbank was on (my company Passat is Auto on) rang the bell on the door and in the corner of my eye saw my car slowly rolling towards a steel post, like slow motion I watched It hit the post with a bang Grrrrr….. How bloody stupid of me!!!

I am now looking at a new bumper and front cross member. Cant even clip the sides back in place

Photos below, question is …. 2009 35i S drive with PDC, will any E89 bumper fit? loads on ebay, just don't want to screw up ordering the wrong one, don't particular want an M Sport bumper as its not in keeping with the car being an S drive

sorry to hear this mate, hope you get it sorted :(

Look on real oem, find the part number, then make sure your replacement matches the same part number.

You can pop out the grills if they are still ok, and use them again.

Not sure if yours is a manual, but I always leave my car in gear, as I did the exact same thing with my ford escort, after a week of owning it... except it hit my Dads car. :/ (many years ago)

Found one of Fleay bay, got the PDC holes and washer outlets, so thinking this should fit, Part number from Real OEM is a 51117230956 so just waiting to hear back from them but they do say its from a 35i so looks like I should be Ok.
Now for the cross member Part number is 51117192154, proving a bit hard to track down

The differences are...
M-Sport and Non-M-Sport
PDC and non-PDC
and that's it.
So assuming yours is a non-M-Sport and you need PDC then as long as the one you have found is also a non-m-sport and has PDC holes then it'll fit.

Thanks Dave

General question, Its my fault as I left the car out of gear and didn't active the parking brake, however isn't this ment to come on when you leave the vehicle (didn't lock it) The manual states If the vehicle is rolling the parking brake acts on the disc brakes of the wheels... yeh right!!!

You may also need two new brackets, I've just ordered two as my bumper wasn't sitting right.
They are actually cheaper from BMW than on the eBay pictured I've included £16 each side

Anyone know of a good source of parts, been trying in vain to get the 51117192154 bumper carrier and failing miserably and BMW want £300 +

Try google part shark and follow the bmw link, they are breaking around 8 e89's at the moment. I've just purchased a centre console with them. They basically forward you to breakers, ps don't email them just give them a call.

Thanks Pauly, will give then a shout tomorrow, aaaah, its Good Friday, next week it is. Missing all this top down weather, feeling well stupid

Feel your pain. I did pretty much the same thing last Sunday. Left my hand brake off and rolled the rear bumper of the MR, into my neighbours wall. Happily mine just needs a respray. :)

Does your model also have the Pedestrian Protection Sensor which is fitted right behind the bumper along the metal support.?

No Idea, as its a 09 plate I wouldn't think so , do I need to find a pedestrian to find out, will I ask the wife to volunteer and run!!!

Hi, i think you’ve misunderstood the manual in that case, the ebrake needs to be manually applied before leaving the car.
It can be used when the car is moving in an emergency, but again it needs to be manually applied by the driver

No its not fitted to the 09 plate.

That’s annoying :( On the plus side you’ll never make that mistake again and will have a nice new coat of paint on the bumper.

I haven’t read the e89 manual but could you be confusing this for the hill holder feature where the car will be held for a few seconds after the foot brake is released on an incline?

Hope the repairs are trouble free, looks like it could have been a lot worse

My Passat handbrake activities as soon as I turn off the ignition, I just forgot to turn the Z4s brake on , my fault
