Ahem Fake Tag Monaco 36 cough cough

Hi all,

As some of you know I bought a Tag Monaco Gulf a few weeks back and over the moon with it,



However would love a Monaco Calibre 36 but prices are a little prohibitive now 5-10K for a second hand example :o

Now I know in my mind buying and owning a fake watch is a complete no no, tacky etc, however I was browsing Gumtree and a fake Monaco Calibre 36 was up for sale for 70 quid. A little googling on this particular watch brought up that it was 250 quid new for the quartz version which this one was and 400 odd quid for one with a swiss ETA movement. The watch was described as mint unworn lol so offered 60 quid which was accepted. I wasn't sure what to expect and thought I may as well have thrown 60 quid down the drain.

Watch arrived yesterday and have to say ummmmmm its superb lol as a watch in its own right as a daily wearer, the quality, finish and feel is very very good, never thought I would say that about any copy watch but really it does look lovely. The rear is a hoot as it even copies the movement and the text spelling is wrong :lol: but the face of the watch and detail is 99% quite chuffed it looks so good for what I paid. Seems to be keeping good time and dials and chrono function work perfectly, I thought these would be dummy dials but surprised they work.

Ah my favourite Monaco. Doesn't look too bad. As long as your happy with it, that's the main thing. For many people they wouldn't be able to tell the difference unless it was off and having a good look at it and even then unless you know the watch they still wouldn't have a rinky dink.

At least you have a real one, ok not the same model but at least your not kidding yourself or anyone else.

Also worth keeping in mind that Tag along with many other 'high quality' watch brands use ETA movements in a lot of their watches. These are bought in and are relatively cheap in comparison to the price of the finished watch. At hat point when some £400/£500 watch is using the same as a £3/£4K Tag you start to think well what am I actually paying for?

Thanks Angie. it does make you wonder re the watch movements but in reality your paying for the brand name in alot of instances. The Tag Carrera Monaco Grand Prix I part exhanged for the Gulf was always a disappointing watch for me as the finish for a 3K watch was not top quality hence one of the reasons why I exchanged it for the Monaco Gulf which appears alot better finished. Only reason I like the Tags is their design and styles but I think Omegas and Breitlings are a better finished watch for similar money.

I have a soft spot for Tags. Always had a watch fascination from an early age and have never parted with any but got my first 'proper' watch, a Black with pink font men's Tag F1 watch at the age of 11.

I still really like Tag and still find their watches more than appealing. I also own a Bretiling and omegas as well as others. They all have their place. I always found my Tag a very robust. As a teenage it took a bit of a beating but still looks good.
 
that is very nice for a cheap replica and ideal if you are doing diy or in the garden and don't want to risk damaging the real deal. At that price it's pretty much disposable... Really like the Monaco but out of my price range at the moment, was tempted myself to get one of them quartz copies but went for an Armani watch which itself is a pretty blatant copy of the Monaco design.

The cal 36 is actually a modified zenith movement not an ETA, but they do use ETA movements in a lot of their watches.. I have a TAG aqaracer which cost just shy of a grand which has an ETA movement in, and also a fake tag f1 which cost me about £50 and has the same bloody ETA movement as my real one, just shows what kind of profit they make!
