AGM battery or not ?

I have got my car on a CTEK charger but I was wondering if my battery is AGM or not as the charger has a specific setting for that ?

When I look for batteries based on the registration or make/model it comes back with AGM but there are no markings on the battery.
I have tried googling the part number S: 61 21 6 917 884 but clearly others are equally confused.

It is on a 2009 3.0 non m sport.

The OEM battery was mostly AGM for most markets and most variants.I’m, personally not aware of any uk spec E89 Z4s that did not have AGM fitted as OE..if it says bmw part number then it’s AGM...

You should use the charging point in the engine bay for trickle charging NOT directly across the battery terminals ,long loooonnnngggg discussions about how bad or not that is but officially it’s either properly spliced into the harness or on the jump starting point in the engine bay..

Thanks for the reply.

I tried using the jump starting point in the engine bay by attaching to the red terminal and -ve to a screw on the body but could not get the charger to work.

The screw on the body is typically painted so give it a brush with a file or fit a ring crimp to it for the charger to pick up on.

Or buy the cigarette lighter adapter and charge it through that? :)

Wouldn't work on mine, as that is only live when the ignition is on, so would not complete the circuit in reverse, as it were.

I use the standard under bonnet red positive point, and the bare metal earth stud on the driver's side top mount turret.
It is a tight stretch for the Ctek cable. I had to separate the two wires all the way back to the connector, but it does just fit if routed carefully to the rear of the engine cover.

most modern batteries of the lead acid type are AGM nowadays. The 'absorbent glass mat' contains the electrolyte and reduces weight, slosh and a few other things.
If your worried just set the charger to its lowest setting and err on the safe side

That is exactly what I have done.

I've always attached my ctec directly to the battery. I never knew this was wrong! :o
I'll use the under bonnet points from now on.

On the e86,e85 it does not make a difference ,I charged my e85 that way for 9 yrs and the battery was 14 yrs old when I changed it..I only changed it then as a precaution . :)
