Hi Guys,

Just wanted to pop in and say hi! - Yesterday i took the plunge, had some brave pills and put my big boy pants on.

Chopped in my 1.6 diesel civic for a 2009 Z4 Sdrive 35i DCT :)

We have an i3 also so i figured we are saving enough carbon day to day to offset something fun for the weekend!

it's not perfect, needs some cosmetic touch-ups here and there, and i think some mechanical suspension parts could do with a freshen up but overall, really happy.

I have a few questions but thought it rude if i just burst onto a new forum, demanding fruit from the knowledge tree too soon :)

Comments, hints, tips and suggestions welcomed.

Can you notice any small differences??

Yes!! - there's no seats behind me

car prior to the civic was a 2016 Audi S3 and a Golf R before that so it was the civic that was out of character for me.. thought i could be all sensible and be ok with a normal car. turns out i was wrong!

Well as you're in the Cambridge area, it shouldn't be too far for you to join the next Norfolk gang day/evening out if you fancy it?

Haha I know the feeling, ive had my 118d around four months and its currently for sale so I can purchase a Zed!

Lovely car you've got there, love the colour! unfortunately I cant stretch to an e89 at the moment!

Enjoy it, and might see you at a Norfolk meet if I get one soon and you come along!

As random as a very random thing on National Random Day :D

When the virus buggers off we will probably get back to our monthly breakfast Saturdays, but in the meantime we are just grabbing at opportunities for a meet up as the mood takes us. Crazy Harry usually co-ordinates it all on the forum, so keep your eyes open for anything from him.

Hi and welcome to the forum
It certainly looks a lovely example of a 35i.
The DCT box is brilliant try it in Sport Mode and pushed over to the left using either the flappy paddles or the gear knob to change gear
One thing to check is the cars battery it should have the manufacture date stamped on the negative post, if it’s the original you should change it as a defective battery can cause lots of problems, the same goes for the “salmon” roof relays.

Just found out i can find the spec list of my car online! - 8)

now i've just gotta decode most of this funky wording so i know what the hell it all is :)

First thing i notice, there's no mention of an upgraded sound system but there is an OEM amp in the boot.. :?

Hi and welcome to the madhouse with your stunning looking Z4.

Your spec doesn't mention an upgraded stereo, but maybe a previous owner retro-fitted one if you've found an amp in the boot?

And after an introduction like yours complete with photos I don't think anyone would mind if you started asking questions - after all when you've just bought the car is when you are most likely to want to find things out!

Welcome to the mad house PixelPeep. Great looking Z4 sir. 8)

So I guess this is more zippy than the civic then... :exitright:

Right, this amp....

does this look factory to anyone ? i don't have any DSP settings or anything, no subwoofer levels, just bass, treble and fader
Model seems to be SPX4

I would say that’s definitely an aftermarket amp, the BMW amp should be in the panel between the drivers seat and the boot

Hi and welcome - fab looking car. I'm itching to swap mine out for a turbo'd version at some point but I don't quite have the balls :D

Nosy question: what is holding your water bottle in the first pic? (I quickly concluded the cup holders I see you're also using, are way too much of a pain to use as it means the arm rest has to be up. So out they came!)

Edit: nice spec list too. You're a cruise control away from having all the nice options fitted and some of the rarer ones too - the design white interior option for example. Cruise control is easily rectified by AnubisZed on this forum if that floats your boat.

Ok, thank you everyone for the welcome. Thank you also for being ok with some newbie questions..
if i'd be better off starting a new thread with this post, please let me know!

Note: i am not mechanically minded in the slightest, i can talk a good talk, and understand cars inside and out but pretty much every job that needs doing i will be paying someone else to do.

here goes..

1) next to the hard drive icon on the top right hand side of the flip over display - what does the number next to it mean? i have -10 showing at the moment.
2) i can only seem to put in the first part of a postcode in the nav, i then have to put a street name in, is this normal ?
3) how easy (and at what cost) is the nav software to upgrade? mine is currently showing ECE BMW 1.2.4 Road map europe PREMIUM 2008-2
4) does anyone elses drivers side door armrest (with the window controls) squeak every time you touch it? if so, is it an easy fix?
5) how easy (and at what cost) is replacing the odd switch cover where the black plastic has peeled off? currently my PDC, roof up, drivers side heated seat and the main iDrive wheel buttons have bits that have slightly peeled.
6) is there any way to easily retrofit an OEM DAB tuner? - mine only has FM/AM

think that's it for now... thank you so much in advance for your time!
