Aftermarket Xenon Headlights ??

Hello,

So I've been doing some research but not really getting far!

As some may know I just purchased a 2003 Z4 3.0i the other day. It came with Xenons from the factory (According to the vin decoder) and my lights do indeed appear to be xenons. The High beam I believe is a halogen? But the low beam is Xenon (Does that sound right). The lens also has the DS2 mark on it -- although I don't appear to have the headlight washers which from another thread I read, I gather I should have them?

I'd like to update the look - but all the aftermarket sets I find are Halogen only What's the best way to update the look of my headlights? Are there any aftermarket xenons? I'd really like a set with angel eyes.

I've seen posts of people trying to make custom lights - I'm not so good with that so daren't try it myself.

Any links etc greatly appreciated.

First check you really have xenon
Slight flicker on start up
Yellow warning stickers under bonnet
Only 1 adjustment wheels for interior light by the light switch

There are no aftermarket xenons so it's buy factory clears, do some conversions or stick with what you have

I will double check tomorrow for the yellow sticker - I presume you're referring to the ballast sticker which *should* be on the top of the light if I'm right?

I do only have 1 adjuster next to my light switch. This alters the brightness of the interior / clock lights etc

You do have headlight washers - they're the circular covers on the bumper. They don't fire everytime so you may need a few squirts to check they're working.

I will double check. When I had a quick look over, it looked like those were just part of the bumper moulding. Eg, bumper was moulded like that but the rising washer was not installed. As I say, I will double check tomorrow

My headlight washers only work with headlights on turn your lights on and give them a good blasting should work if not may have a problem with pumps good luck with lights looking to change mine also so will keep and eye on your post gl

Hmmm, ok, pardon my lack of knowledge here, but what was the problem with fitting some from a later model? I Think I Read somewhere that the bumper would have to be changed too? And stuff recoded?

they're bi-xenon, main beam is xenon, full beam is halogen

if you turn the headlights on and they make a whirring sound and level themselves, no leveler switch and washers, that's what you have

washers only work when the lights are on, and they only spray 1 once on first activation then something like every 5th time

i've led sidelight, xenon light , and a decent halogen for xenon like colour in mine and they're grand, if the orange bit annoys ya people butcher their lights to take it out (load of hassle imo)

I tinted mine for the last year and it was grand imo

cj10jeeper's given you the answer above - with Xenon you either stick with what you've got, or you do a cut&shut to give you angel eyes, clear indicators (you'll need donor clear boomerangs) etc.

If you go for facelift lights they should be Xenon and IIRC you'll need to either do some re-wiring or get a new LCM (Lights Control Module). Personally, I wouldn't go back to a set of halogen as the light output is significantly less.

I can't see the woods for the trees as they say! I don't see anything about marrying up aftermarket halogens? Or did you simply mean he put on aftermarket halogens instead?

Guess I'll keep my eye out for some cheap (I know, unlikely) bi xenons same as mine and see what can be done. From what I gather you have to cut them apart so might even need 2 sets

I made them myself. Search for my posts on this forum and you will find I wrote a DIY how to guide back in 2017

I dunno if these aftermarket xenon lights would be an option. They reckon they are for 03-08 models with factory xenons fitted.

Might be worth the risk, especially if there's no other option.

However, I'd be careful, as the heading, description & photo's are full of inconsistencies around the bulbs used. Some places mention xenon, but the rest state H1 and H7 for dip & main beam.

You'll may also have issues with them not being approved for European road use and possibly with a US/LHD alignment/pattern.
