Aftermarket warranty has me thinking?

I seen on the Internet you can get warranty etc. And pay monthly for it! Can I take out some warranty and then a month later claim for my roof motor to be fixed?? They will never know will they?

I am not sure you can out a warrantee on a car that is not currently under warrantee - i think you have to extend an existing warrantee

could be wrong though :idunno:

Yes technically you could get away with that. But you should expect a struggle getting any aftermarket company to pay out. Would be best going for the official BMW warranty - you can still buy then even if it has previously lapsed, just need full service history.

Yes - fraud is a popular way of reducing expenditure. :poke:

I think you'd have a damn tricky job signing up an out of warranty car then springing a claim on them a month or so later.

When I bought my car it came with 6 months warranty from a company called warranties direct, I had the SILVER policy put onto my car and that does not cover the roof motor as I have just had it replaced at considerable cost!

I spoke to them several times but no way they were going to pay up and rightly so I suppose. They did tell me the GOLD policy with a "convertible" add on package would cover the motor and associated parts but that cover is around £55.00 a month which I think is alot of pennies especially if you never claim.

When you look at it you are paying £660.00 a year for peace of mind which is a lot but most things on these cars are expensive so...

Make your own judgement I suppose.

Forgot to add, they pride themselves on being one of the only companies to pay out for "wear and tear" apparently.

Warranty Direct is rubbish. I used to have it on my partner's Polo. But many items were still not covered, e.g. an electronic item which managed engine.

So for £660 I could get my roof fixed is what your saying? Thought they were cheaper, so may give it a miss and buy from BMW and fit myself!

Warranty Direct will pay for replacement of the actual item, but not for ancilery stuff. On the X5, the glow plug control unit needed replacing but they paid for the replacement.

However, not for:

- Diagnoses
- Removal of manifold to get tot he control unit

So of a £450 bill, they paid £200 in the end whilst I had the most comprehensive warranty.

I did not renew it ...
