Aftermarket headunit but retaining BMW 6-disc changer?

Is it possible?

I've no idea what brand the 6-disc changer fitted to the Z4 is as standard - Alpine?

I'm considering changing my headunit to something aftermarket in order to have MP3-disc compatibility, but if possible would like to retain use of the autochanger. Am I dreaming? Or is this possible?

I've been looking for a newer-style BMW Business headunit (MP3-disc compatible) for ages but not found one for sale, so this is next best option :(

Cheers
Ally

Cheers, a US-model works on different radio frequencies than UK-model ones though, does it not? Seller mentions they're grey though but I'll fire him off a question.

oem supplier for 6 disc changer and hu for recent bmws are alpine
Interesting . I'll maybe go for a wander over to the talkaudio forums and investigate compatibility a bit more in depth. I wouldn't be gutted to lose the use of the 6-disc changer if I go for an aftermarket headunit, but if it's possible to retain it then it'd be nice. I've always had Alpine headunits in all my previous cars anyway.

Get yourself an Alpine headunit and you wont need the CD changer. I just use a 16GB USB Drive with my 9886R.

Think US FM spec slightly wider than ours, all I know is I sold exactly what you are after to someone in the states when I removed it to install SatNav.

How does that work? Interested to know more!

I see there's some aftermarket headunits with a front-mounted USB input - I'm not interested in that, want something integrated. Or, is the USB port access via a cable into the rear of the unit? Easy to navigate through and find the music on the USB stick?

I'm not an iPod man so not interested in having my music on an external MP3 player, i.e. I want to control my music from whatever headunit I get and not faff around with an MP3 player.
