Aftermarket CarPlay Screen - Oil Readings?

Hi all

My e89 35i with aftermarket carplay screen has just popped up a yellow light for oil, when shutting off and removing key after a drive.

1. Does this indicate a standard level of oil loss i.e. 1 litre, or some other fixed amount?
2. There is no physical dipstick (I hate you BMW) so I gather this is checked through iDrive. I have an aftermarket screen replacing my original iDrive, though, so I am not sure I can get that oil check information through it?

Many thanks to anyone who can assist.

Best bet it to tip 500ml in to start with..

Can you not access oil level status through some convoluted pressing of buttons on the steering wheel sticks on the cluster?

500ml going in on the way home tonight indeed. Does the 35i typically burn a bit of oil over miles? I know lots of other BMs do these days.

...I would really love to know how to do this!

N54 pretty good on oil normally 2-3k per litre at least..if bad then PCV issue..

Others can advise on buttonology..I use idrive and with id4motion digital cluster not sure I can check it from there?

To access the iDrive and read the oil etc. you should just need to hold the ‘menu’ button on the iDrive controller down for 5 seconds. Same to switch back again. That’s how the MMI boxes work, presume the screen ones are pretty much the same….

Thank you TBDL and Pudsley for great tips!

I have added 500ml as a precaution and it’s stopped it happening. But will be trying both methods!

(Ps bring back oil dipsticks!)

For the record: this definitely works. Oil level reading works well and all is good!

This menu selection also revealed a crazy range of servicing reports, mileages to next service of which type, etc. - will need to dig into the manual and decode all the different symbols...
