Just looking around and couldn't seem to see any obvious signs of modified suspension posts to do with the roadsters... is this something you guys have got an interest in or are you all running OEM stuff?

A friend of mine had a Z3M Coupe and after fitting coilovers and getting it corner-weighted he said it was an amazing transformation (plus it looked great sitting a little lower)

So any photos of zeds sat on their ass  or recommendations of which brands are well liked?

Not loads of kits out there for the Z4. Most on here run Eibach pro springs, as do i. But personally as ive always run coilovers on every other car, i did not want any harder ride, and though the ride height was spot on with the Eibachs. IMO best bet is to focus on ARB and bushes with the Z. Z3 handles like a pile of poo, so no comparison

As Chris says, Eibach springs are the mst common change made to suspension on Z4s. Some do it for appearance or performance, or some (like me) do it because they're cheaper for a set of 4 Eibach springs than a pair of BMW OE springs! If you need to replace broken springs on a Z4 then Eibach is a good alternative to sticking with BMW ones.

Bilstein also do uprated shock absorbers which apparently are well-matched to the Eibach springs, but there's maybe only 1 or 2 folk who've actually got them.

I've run coilovers on a previous car (H&Rs) and when set up properly, i.e. for performance and not stupidly low, the ride quality and handling were excellent. That was on a car with an already good chassis though and they were good coilvers, so coilovers aren't the solution to everything.

Interesting read, thanks guys :D

I had heard about the springs being a common fault on the Z4's interesting to know you can upgrade at the same time too for less money!

So as far as ride height, am I correct in thinking the 2.0 & 2.5 were 'standard' height then the 3.0 and M were lower??

I didn't actually do mine as an upgrade: I decided against replacement BMW springs to avoid the possibility of them breaking again in future. That they happen to be lower was a side effect of them :). Not too bothered about the ride height as it doesn't cause me any problems, but they're also (IMO) slightly softer initially so cope well with potholed roads which is a nice benefit. Plus I'm a tight Scotsman and chose the best VFM option

"Standard" Z4 = standard height

Z4s with the "Sport" suspension (3.0i SE's, anything with Si spec - I think) = 15mm lower

Z4's with Eibach springs = another 15mm lower than "Sport", i.e. 30mm lower than standard non-Sport Z4

I'm running 18's on my 3.0si and I can fit three fingers in the back arch which really anoys me as I have always lowered my cars with springs or coilovers except for my last 330ci that seemed to be well Matched on 18's. I can't imagine 15mm being enough of a difference but as I intend to get 19's would any lower cause issues at that point.

Those of you who have lowered your car on Eibachs are you still able to get over speed bumps? Or do you encounter any trouble?
