After market radio - 4/6 speakers?

Mornin' all! This one should be rather straight forward. I've read lots of threads on replacing the stock radio and the fun to be had with the vents, but nothing on 4/6 speakers.

It is my understanding that my car has 6 speakers, though the radio I am planning to purchase has only 4x50W outputs. Does this mean 2 of the speakers will not be used?

The front 2 outputs are split between the footwells (bass/mid) and the top door speakers (tweeters.)

Cracking, so all 6 speakers will be powered by the new head unit?

I've just got the dreaded vents out with hardly any fuss at all - until I ran my thumb along the exposed edge of the aluminum trim and gashed it right open!

Do I need to disconnect the battery when swapping over radios? I never have on older cars and it hasn't caused any issues.

No I've removed mine recently without disconnecting the battery. Just be careful not to short any wires if you take apart the loom.

The zappin feature is surprisingly effective for those times when you don't know what you want to listen to!

I have this one MEX - BTU3900U it was on sale in halfords for £99.99. Good sound & features.

Bandit, do you have any pictures a little wider? I'd like to see how yours looks sitting int he facia. Sounds like there are a few slightly different designs out there.

Any better? It does sit proud of the dash, that's my only gripe but the sound quality and Bluetooth functions are excellent.

I had a really nice kenwood unit in mine which was great but it just didn't look quite right (too modern)

Then I saw a Xomax unit that was ridiculously cheap, I took a punt on it when it was £50 as I felt it would look quite good in a Z (but expected to return it if it was poorly quality)

I ended up suitably impressed and have kept it, despite being cheap it still significantly outperforms the stock unit on sound, provides modern functionality and in my opinion looks quite nice in a suitably retro way.
