after 6 years... iPhones are now redundant in my house!

I have several apple devices and find them frustrating. I moved away from iPhone a couple of years ago.

IMO Apple products are, generally speaking for people who are not that 'tech savvy', not for people who want real flexibility and inter-operability between different devices in their home.

I have a BlackBerry 10 and am very happy with it. I can manage the file system efficiently, transfer media on and off my NAS, etc. It offers flexibility and allows me to use the device as iwant to.

i agree.... also the built quality was nice... but the failure rate and apples approach to me as a customer who was buying these phones from them was pretty shocking imo, many whole days wasted getting replacements with refurbed items which were usually worse than the one i just chopped in.
 
Moved away from the iPhone 5 when I was using a HTC One alongside it and it just got left unused. I would only be tempted back if Apple made a phone with a decent screen size. The iPhones screen feels diddy compared to the HTC.

I have both!

And this year i am slowly replacing all my apple devices... Which hasnt been easy but is pretty exciting as a techy!


Macbook pro and ipad were replaced by a yoga 2 pro, apple tv by a rasberry pi, and got myself a personal htc one m8.

Imo i have no probs with my 5s, or any apply products... And they are convenient giving them to my parents to see things as they are so easy to use.

But i like to tinker... Which is what android lets me do!

I think the iPhones are popular because they were the best when they first came out. They still seem to have that reputation as most people don't bother trying anything else. They are used to the operating system so just get the next one. The gf got the 5s not long ago after ignoring my advice but seeing mine s4 and her dad's note 2 has changed her mind. It literally was a fashion thing to her but I'm finally getting through to her :lol:
Apple restrict you I every way possible just to make money and I see more and more people every day making the switch. Can't stand them due to their restrictions, and their tiny screens.
 
What's all this paying malarkey? I've not paid for much on my iPhone but then I don't really get lots if apps.

Getting a bit fed up with the battery on my 4s being crap but I think I've missed the major battery killer because I'm still on is 6.1.3 :0

The dictionary needs resetting as it autocorrects stuff wrong and I'm firmly in the crappy call camp. Drops them like a stone all the time. But I do like the iPod bit.

Was thinking of trying a Samsung next as I don't have any other apple stuff
 
Wish I knew what every one was talking about in this thread. I have my daughter's old phone. Think it's a Galaxcy S2. It does texts, so that's me sorted. :D

I stick a tenner PAYG on every 6 months or so. :thumbsup:
 
I love my Galaxy Note 3.....great for watching movies.....and try Launcher....what an amazing interface product. Wow wow wow...bespoke interfaces from a choice of a 1000....

I basically have a Synology NAS with (8TB) all my films/ music on it. With that and my smart tv i can play all the films and music, but not achieve true apple tv airplay... Which with the pi and my htc i can now get.

In terms if size... Personally i dont like the big phones... I wish the iphone 4, samsung s2 form size would return as these new phone are too big... And the battery terrible.

Thats one area which i think my 5s excels in... Its nice and small (ish) and the battery life is over 24hrs... So charge it nighly. My one m8 on similar use is dead by 5pm :thumbsdown:

I prefer the smaller screens too. I also have zero interest in customising it. I have the same desktop, lock screen etc as when I bought it. So being able to change everything is of little benefit or interest to me.
 
Im glad your happy with your choice. But doesn't mean everyone else should follow suit.

Why would you watch movies on a phone… these big screens are a waste of time, too big you can't get them in your pocket, easier to break, try sitting down with one… poor battery life etc etc 1/2" on a mobile phone really doesn't make that much difference if you ask me.

The S5 is one of the most flimsy on the market atm it got slated on release.

If you want a better experience buy a tablet/laptop or even a heres a funny one a TV…

People complaining about iPhone 4 its 4 years old, thats why its battery life is poor any battery that is on 24 hours a day for 4 years no wonder it can't hold charge!! and it can't keep up because its processing power is about 1/4 the speed of a 5s it was designed to run IOS4 not IOS7. IOS7 was designed to run on the newest software which is why its slow. It is only on IOS7 for convenience and so everyone wouldn't have to upgrade instantly.

I have a 4S and love it, just replaced the battery and its like new, still quick and does everything I need.
 
I agree with most of that Tom except the ios7 bit.... Sure its designed to run in the latest hardware... But i wouldnt be an advocate of leaving your ip4s on ios5... Has too many security flaws.

Just a shame apple dont release/ support ios5 for those still on the old hardware... And force everyone to upgrade to the latest os... Which inevitably slows it down to the point that you have to upgrade..... Not saying google/ andriod are any better mind you.

Fair enough but most people upgrade due to their contract most of which are two years and deals being fairly attractive. So they design their updates in hardware and software in contrast to this. The iPhone 4 was designed for IOS4 but works on 5,6 and 7. Its not brilliant on IOS7 but it still works which means people still have access if they choose. Can you expect 4 year old hardware to run well on new software? I think its unreasonable to expect it to work at current models speeds at that age. If tech worked like that there would be no reason to innovate. They still offer security upgrades to all IOS versions. But as IOS4 is a 4 year old operating system and apple offers the upgrades for free then I suppose its in the interest of the user to use the latest software if the hardware accepts it.

Android just don't bother, the percentage of adoption of Kit Kat was 10% whereas IOS7 was 90% most people run their phones on old software not taking advantage of the newer releases and don't even realise. You can take that a number of ways either the average user doesn't have a clue or doesn't care or android aren't communicative with their releases.

How can you update and improve an operating system that barely any of the target audience upgraded to in the first place?

The fact android runs on so many phones makes it difficult to have a stable cross platform with upgrades. Android are doing some interesting things and I do like the features other manufacturers are doing with their phones but Apple are the only company to provide a complete ecosystem that works across all devises. Everything else requires work arounds I don't have time to make. The 'missing' features are usually pretty minor and in everyday use are fairly minor.

Also for those that have an iPhone 4 or 4s have you tried backing it up wiping it and starting again? Like any computer they slow as they gather information so by resetting it you speed up the experience. Doesn't take long and makes a world of difference.

Like the old "il buy a new laptop because mine is slow." Yet the laptop is 4 years old is full of bloatware taking processing power away, a format makes the world of difference but people are too worried they will break it so just complain and say the operating system/hardware is crap then complain they have to spend £800 every couple of years.

Love the screen size on my S4 - just about right for web browsing. I hate using the Iphone for it - its too small, cant read or enter online forms well at all.

My old Galaxy Note was great for the screen, slightly too big for the pocket. I fit both my S4 and 5s in my pocket (singular) everyday fine.

I agree with the comments about using these devices for videos - pointless. I disagree with the battery life, I used to be able to stretch mine to 3 days with limited usage. Heavy usage is 1 day and usual is around 2.
