Are there many on here who have bought a Ford , brand new out of the wrappers?

Yes, 5 so far and soon to be 6. I work for them so get cheap deals. £30 a week for the fiesta with no deposit is cheap motoring for the missus.

So THATS why you got your knickers in a twist when some people didn't instantly like the Ford....  :P

Whatever floats your boat. If you want to masturbate whilst touching the interior of motors, just make sure you do it out of the view of children.

Blimey Ben G, does it really go that far for some

I was an avid Ford fan in my youth!
Cortina GT, RS2000 3000 Capri etc - then in 1980 we bought a new Fiesta supersport -a complete basket case I'm afraid.

In 20,000 miles and two years,

Delivered with a missing
Headlight bulb
No working handbrake
Then:-
Complete re spray
Suspension strut
Clutch
Carburettor
Headlamps
Exhaust.
Then the main bearings failed and it required a bottom end rebuild!

Other than that it was perfect! I'm sure they've (Ford) have got their act together now but it left a nasty taste in my mouth about the product. I've never considered Ford since.

I used to work for Hertz and ford delivered a 1.6 GT Capri to us with a 1.3 engine in it

Bought our Fiesta new in 2004 for £7500 and has covered just over 60k - other than tyres , a batteryand normal servicing the only additional cost has been new front discs/pads ( £100 )- I do look after my cars so it still looks mint - despite all the jibes about Ford interiors in my view it's a lot better quality than all the other cars of it's class and even the driver's seat shows no sign of wear whatsoever - it never needs topping up with water or oil and even as a petrol you can get 40+ mpg overall and has never broken down.

I have owned Cortina's and an XR2i in the past and will concede that modern Fords are better built - as a daily driver I wouldn't hesitate to recommend any of the Ford models.

As regards the new Focus RS it looks more of a track car - on the road I would be embarrassed to be seen in it - would feel like a right chav plonker !

Probably feel the same in a Subaru Impreza as well !
Is it that boot spoiler?

No, not in the slightest. They used to be awful, but have come on leaps and bounds.

I'm not blinded by brand snobbery so i can appreciate other marques, hence why i own a z4.

Have to say I'm not a fan of Skooby Impreza, Mitsi EVO & Nissan GTR, but not sure they are all chav chariots.

My rule of thumb, that I'v just thought up, is that if your car looks faster that it goes then it's a Chav Mobile. Nothing to do with the Badge. So an impreza 2.0 with an STI wing on it.

I like that rule of thumb. Of course if you drive them like a twat then all of the above do become chav chariots :fuelfire:

Saloon cars that are dressed up with coffee tables strapped to the boot, waste gates, sorry,"dump valves" that go fizz and pops and bangs from the exhaust! :D

Was curious home well the mk2 RS had held its value as a few here had mentioned it.
Using Parkers online valuations assuming list prices for base models of 2010 cars and good private sale now.

Mk2 Focus RS New - £27,910 Now - £18,530 Lost 33.6%
Audi S3 New - £29,960 Now - £16,560 Lost 44.7%
Z4 35is New - £41,355 Now - £13,680 Lost 66.9%
BMW 135i Coupe New - £30,675 Now - £13,785 Lost 55.1%

Seems like BMW lose the most....unless nobody pays anything near the list price!!

Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 Sierra Cosworth RS500 (1987)

Guide price: 55000 - 65000

Not a bad investment.

I'm sure it will go well, but still a Ford and just aspirational for all the rep Focus drivers.

My £30k would find a much better home, albeit on say a 2 year old car.

Looking at the used prices of the previous RS I think you'd actually be hard pushed to find a 2 year old car that will hold it's value better, be a better steer or be quicker.

It might look chavy but all the recent fast Fords I've had a shot of have been very, very enjoyable to drive. German built so generally well put together as well.

Well my opinion has changed slightly after having a new ST this week while away on work.

Had a tiny NAV screen, and the controls were rubbish.. but it was really well made.. much nicer than the previous focus.

The steering wheel was chunkier than the Msport Z4 one.... and made my TT one feel rather puny after sitting back in it.

Did just under 400 miles to a tank; which the way i was driving it i thought was very good.. and was dead comfy!

Interesting comment on used values. Reinforces the thread Title in a way.

Where the looks are concerned Beauty in the eye and all that.

I thought the MK1 ST & RS looked spot on. Not chavy at all. Would have bought an ST, as a daily, but my little Mazda was cheaper, as no ST badge and almost the same car mechanically.

The mk2 ST looked Naff & the RS totally OTT and chavtastic. Not helped by the daft colours, better suited to a Lambo.

The new RS looks 8) cool and I would happily be seen in one of those.

Just MHO

The mk2 focus st was quite restrained in the looks department, so i'm not sure what you're seeing? The RS was OTT as that's what people wanted, a rally car for the road.

Not my cup of tea nowadays but a few years ago i'd have enjoyed one as a youngster.

Btw i've just ordered a fiesta ST3 as the missus'/our main car. Can't wait to chuck it around.

Great choice Ben

I suspect that we will have a similar thread to this with similar prejudices, when Honda finally unveil their new Type R, which looks insane!
