For those that can't afFord the upcoming new shape GT. 8)

How about one of these for the daily drudge.

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/ford/focus/89077/new-ford-focus-rs-unleashed-over-316bhp-and-4wd

Sub 30k, 316 bhp & to my humble eye looks far better than the last one. :D

What's not to like?????????? :!:

no good quality auto for us cripples ?

They make hummers for you lot.

I really like that. 8) So much choice now in the £30k hot hatch bracket. I currently run an M135i but could easily be swayed by a Golf R or RS Focus in a year or so as I'm looking for a bit more grip in day to day use.

Why do people always have go down the 'you could get a used blah for £30k'. That's not comparing apples with apples - some of us appreciate brand new with all of the benefits that brings. I reckon the depreciation on an RS Focus will be comfortably less than a new E89 Zed too...

Yes 2 off them, an XR3i and the subject of this ridiculous snobbery, a Focus which has just replaced my wife's Freelander. Just for good measure I've also had (second hand) 2 Cortina's. All fine cars that frankly did their job as well and with far less temperament than the Z. There seems to be some delusion on here that BMW is not a mass market car whereas in reality it is as common as muck. Don't believe me then go onto Autotrader and check out how many are for sale. BMW 31K, Ford 47K, Vauxhall 43K and VW 35K
I've never understood car snobbery but if you are looking for exclusivity then may I suggest a Toyota at 16K or a Nissan at 17K. See what I mean, BMW is far, far more common than the hoi polloi's weapons of choice.
Ridiculous to discount a complete brand because it has the "wrong badge" on it and sad to think that so many of the buying public are far less able to identify a good car whereas certain BMW drivers can. Again, do me a favour.

My view on ford isnt brand snobbery.... Its based on experience...

The wife got a new fiesta in 2010... 16k for the titanium trim (got a good discount on top)

The tech was brilliant - electric folding mirrors, bt streaming etc. she called it pepo (as the plate ended in PPO)

She was using it for town driving so a perfect small car. However while in between company car leases i requested one just to be sad and have a his and hers!!

The toys are great but the interiors are utter rubbish... The doors are tinny... And for the price can get a nice german motor.

Sold it last year and in 3.5 years had lost 70% of its value (was a prefacelift) admittedly the RS should its value really well like the current one.. But the brand itself doesnt....

Add to that when she threw away the locking key they charged £60 plus labour as had to remove the mcguard locking nuts and replace - unlike just bmw who charge £12 for a new key:

So back to the point... If i had £30k and had to pick a new daily drive i would go Audi S3 or M135 long before a focus... As the interior is what matters most to me... Not the claimed track performance.

If i wanted a cheap third car use throw the garden rubbish to the tip.... No doubt a 5 year old focus estate would be well up there.

Is it possible to get a new M135i for £30k ? With all the toys ?

Not so sure but I would think not. A while back I started to price up a 1 series with just a few bells and whistles and certainly with far less kit than a, phah wash my mouth out - Focus, and the price started to fly away into orbit.
I'm sure an aficionado will soon be along to tell it like it is

That's what I thought, having priced a 320 xdrive up recently and ended up well north of £30k. Someone who is going to buy a M135i is not the same target market as the Focus RS, so I think our opinions of whether we'd spend £30k on an RS are irrelevant tbh. It's a great looking car with loads of toys and monstrous performance, with a rock solid motorsport heritage. The interior may not be up there with some marques, but I am pretty sure that the person who buys this is not after hand-stitched leather and ergonomically designed switch gear...

Standard M135i is surprisingly well specced as standard, leather, xenons etc, dealer knocked 5k off mine when I ordered :) Like any BMW sky's your limit when speccing. For me the engine alone wins over the Ford lumps all day long :)

Agree on Ford interiors, when I looked at the Fiesta ST it was a dire place to be.

Ford's are good alround hum drum cars though :)

Tim.

I was quite pleased with my little 1.4 Fiesta, 2 years old and 1700 miles when I got her and half the new price. The interior wasn't too bad but lacked a few toys esp. cruise. The newer ones are better but the prices are going steadily up. £100 a year more for tax and similar fuel consumption show how much better the engineering under the hood is on the zed.
As for the Focus, prefer it to the last obnoxious looking monster but don't think it's worth that much.

All these comments these days about interiors and interior quality. A car is for effing driving not having your arse cheeks massaged whilst having perfectly warmed air and classic FM piped into the cockpit. Jesus I don't know why some of you lot are on a car forum at all.

For what it's worth I had a Mondeo ST200 as a company car once. Did 90k in 18 months. It depreciated like a bastard. £23k new, they sold it to me for £4.8k and I flogged it the day after for £6.5k. But it was one of the best cars I've had. Great engine and performance (for its time).

I'm considering a new ST3 Fiesta Mountune as a replacement for my daily drive at the moment.

If this holds its value like the last Focus RS's have it will be a lot better place to put £30k than some of the more "premium" metal mentioned in this thread.

I managed to get bmw to offer a m135 with metallic paint for something like £200 over £30k. Base spec has most the stuff you need, xenon, cruise etc.

However the first years roadtax is a bit of a killer on it - however i'd imagine the RS would have a similar issue with that respect also.

The wife now does over 100 miles a day - 6 days a week (derby to solihull) so the interior is far more important than looks or performance.... And that is about driving.... When you are behind the steering wheel what do you see.... Just the interior!

If interior is important to you get an audi.

I once lost 16k in a year on a quattro.

That was my first and last audi

My M135i was under £30k with some tasty extras. I still love the look of that RS though. Totally agree with OG regarding the importance of interior quality for a petrol head when choosing a car. Quite frankly, the E85 Z4 interior is pretty lousy on quality!

Yeah i love my e85 but the interior is shockingly bad.

We also have a 2013 fiesta and I managed to drive to Scotland and back without getting upset at interior plastics.

Whatever floats your boat. If you want to masturbate whilst touching the interior of motors, just make sure you do it out of the view of children.

Yes, 5 so far and soon to be 6. I work for them so get cheap deals. £30 a week for the fiesta with no deposit is cheap motoring for the missus.
