aFe Intake - pics fitted

evening all,

following the purchase of an afe cold air intake from a thread on this forum it arrived a bit sorry for itself after the stated week's use. the maf sensor mount had a broken off drill bit in one of the threads and the maf sensor had been held on with a rather crude bodge. i enquired why this wasn't mentioned in the advert and the seller said the 'alternative installation' had slipped his mind.

finally got this filter fitted, the first engineer i took it to couldn't get the drill bit out so i took it to a more specialist place that sorted it....sparked(?) it out or something.

fitting was relatively straightforward, for a tailored kit i wouldn't say it's a perfect fit, and it's a bit strained where it joins the engine, i shall periodically check that the jubilee clips holding the rubber 'elbow coupler' are still doing their job, as the radius seems a bit sharp for the components to me.

added some gold anodised fairing bolts to jazz up the rather functional appearance, as the m6 bolts to hold the cover were also absent from the parts sent...

at idle the engine sounds a little more throaty, not massively. the throttle response is improved markedly, nearly such that it feels a bit like the sport button has been pressed when it hasn't...almost..

at around 4500rpm + it sounds very nice, a very rich roar, i wouldn't say at cruising the noise is intrusive, so if you are using your car as a daily driver it's not that bad.

the chap selling said he'd removed it as it was too noisy, and i would say this is a bit of an exaggeration, although i might be a bit deaf..

i don't know if i'd pay the full wack for one of these - the quality isn't great for the price, however a fair amount of what we'd pay is tax so that's a harsh assessment in a way. i would recommend if you drop on a second hand one though.

pics below, and a couple of the carbon wrap i applied to the lower edges of the front bumper and one of the obligatory stubby i finally put on... :)

Looking good James.. Bet it sounds great. You should try and post up a sound clip. I'm starting to forget how nice that car sounds :(

Carbon wrap looks really good. Will probably help against chips and any scrapes as the fangs are quite low
