AFE Induction kit group buy

Is there much difference between the M and the 3.0? Obviously the bigger the market for this product the more viable it is for him to do it and also the better price he can do?

if you can make one fit a 3.0i then im in...

It looks pretty simple i could have copied one easily if i had access to a workshop again :(

Just need to try to get hold of one...... As for one fitting the 3.0, once we have one for an M if someone is in the Rutland area who wouldn't mind taking their Z to my friends factory he can take some measurements  Need a kit first though

I've had another look at my OEM airbox and the AFE one. The problem with fabricating this system de novo ourselves, or modifying the OEM system lies with the way the MAF connects to the induction system. I don't think there's sufficient scope to modify the OEM airbox where the MAF attaches the induction system is already flaring out to form the body of the airbox. Creating a connection with MAF input (like the highly chromed ring on the AFE system) would be much more difficult than creating a new airbox to surround a cone filter.

M@r]{, can your mate fabricate an adapter ring that allows a cone filter to be connected to the oem induction system with a MAF input port?

That's no problem. Especially if he has one to get measurements off of.

Has anyone got one they'd "hire" to us? Payment in cash our perhaps parts? Spacers or something?

I work in a big machine shop/ fabrication with all the necessary equipment to replicate the AFE but to make it viable you have to get enough numbers to make it, which can be a pain in the arse.Granted it would be a lot cheaper but i would hazed a guess you would need at least 10 people wanting it and then depending on filter would come in around the £100 mark each but like others have said you would need one to copy and a willing donor car to get it right.I looked at doing this my self just for my car but couldnt be bothered as i couldnt decide on a filter as when you check reviews there is alot off conflicting advise .
But still may be interested in one :D

I made this back when i first got the Z! BMC twin cone inside a custom fabricated heat sheild, :headbang: should have down some drawings and dimensions before I welded it! The cone was £50-£60 plus the ally sheet which i cant remember prices! But way cheaper than a AFE / Grouppe M one and it sounds awsome!

I will be taking it off soon before i sell the car in spring, i can try and reverse engineer some drawings if any one has access to a workshop!

me too!!!

i learnt the hard way when it comes to heat/rain shields.

i had an impreza, and fitted an open air filter - unfortunately it sat just under a vent.
when it rained, water dripped into the filter and blew the MAF sensor constantly.....lesson learnt - the hard way!

Maybe worth asking this guy to sell you a gruppe m in px for standard airbox. Just a thought, probably best checking the mileage its done.

This thread has changed direction a bit! I'm going to email CA over the weekend to get a feel for what kind of discount they might offer. Any more people interested in a group buy?
I'm interested in how we might fabricate something ourselves too, but it depends on what discount CA can offer

cool

just ask for a pricing bracket e.g 5 units, 10 units etc

PS are you quoting for the dry or oil filers? as ive heard horrors about the oil ones
