I agree about the rear being better as standard. I do like the front and side skirts though.

Does it have any impact on insurance? Will I have to inform my insurers if I add the kit?
Yes - you need to tell them about something like this, likely won't affect the premium at all, but say if you crash, or if someone damages the car and does a hit and run then the insurance company may not pay up as the car is no longer as described.

correct, you have to declare all additional accessories you put in the car, whether stereo and speaker upgrades, body kits, rims, etc.

What if you buy a car with the kit already on?

You'd hate to buy a car with the additional accessories 'mud flaps' and find out that your insurance was void

if you got it brand new, then no you don't need to declare it since the spec sheet should indicate that already.

if you got it 2nd hand, then you need to clarify first if the previous owner added it or came with the car already.

your insurance will not get void, but when you get into an accident the accessories you added will not be covered(at least that's how it works here in our country).

I know, I'm just being obtuse... ie, will ignorant buyers check for such things anyway? To many women all they can differentiate between is the colour of a car, and now we want them to determine if it has the optional aerodynamic kit retrofitted :D :D

I think most insurers won't mind as they will likely, in the event of a write off, come out and value the car. I doubt at the age they are now aero kits add that much value anyway... if I spent £1000 adding one for example, I wouldn't want £1000 more if it got written off, 'mods', even OEM ones, to cars, unfortunately, don't really add insurable value unless you go specialist... and then worry about all the tiny small print :P

When I was looking to buy mine it was advertised as having a factory fitted kit so I asked the dealer if he could check this for me and in the meantime I checked with the dealership the car was originally bought from and they confirmed this along with a printout of all optional extras that where put on the car when bought new. What they also told me is that the Aero kit and spoiler dont actually come direct from the factory fitted but are fitted here in the UK after the option is purchased. I beleive that he said that the car goes to Bracknell to get fitted before it is released to customer. When I get my insurance quote I always tell them all the options and they say as long as it is declared and it was an optional extra when the car was new it was fine and that if anything should happen, god forbid, they would replace with same.

z4 rex,

can you do me a favor, could you take pics of the gaps and mount points of your front bumper?

i just installed my aero front bumper and the gap of the bumper and the headlight housing on both sides are way off. i can actually see the hollow space in between the bumper area and wheel well especially when my fog lamps are on.

and at the bottom, i removed 7 hex screws from my old bumper and only got to mount 4 from the aero bumper. the two hex screws nearest to the tires are also bending the bumper awkwardly, which i'm not comfortable with in the long run.

the kit does not have a license plate holder as well, where did you get your plate mount?

This is what IMO looks best on the Z:

ALPINA baby!

I have the aero front end. Its not as wild and noticeable as you might think really. Really nice to be able to retain the round fog lights to.
I just prefer my car to look a BIT different to everyone else. Plus im not that old so its nice to make the car look a bit less like its owned by a mid-life crisis swinger :D

My goal as well is the M front bumper and the aero side skirts. I haven't decided on a spoiler though. I have seen the curved one pictured with the aero skirts and I do think it looks good however.
