Aero Wipers

After a long drive in the rain yesterday, I've come to the conclusion that the standard Z4 wipers aren't great. The nearside one also doesn't rest flat all the way along so look a bit crap too. I'm thinking of changing to 'aero' style wipers, and was wondering if anybody had any recommendations. These cars obviously have the old fashioned type of wiper arms so need 'retrofit' aero blades. These ones seem very cheap:

Any other suggestions?

Can't speak for the Z4, but I got one off eBay for my Elise and it worked really well. I found that on cars with very curved screens the standard wipers just can't curve enough.

Keep us posted.

I've had both Bosch and Michelin 'retrofit' aero wipers, neither of which laid flat against the screen on the nearside. It is simply way too curved.

I found that at speeds over 50mph the drivers side blade would lift off the screen at the bottom a good way and juddered on the upward wipe - very distracting and only got worse, i.e. cleared less of the screen, the higher my speed. Also caused the nearside to judder because they are linked. I have subsequently changed back to the Bosch OEM ones which are much better as the drivers one has that nice big spoiler to keep it pressed against the screen. The nearside one is still off at the end, so I think I may get a 19" one instead of 20" to see if that fits better without reducing the cleared area too much.

I've tried a few (BMW, Bosch, Goodyear, Trico Neoform, etc.), and have settled on the expensive PIAA ones (about £24/side) - 'Super Sporza Silicone Wiper Carrier and Blade with Spoiler'.

I bought the bespoilered version for both sides to avoid high speed lifting, and have tested them successfully at 100mph+.

However, I bought the next size down for the passenger side, as I'd also found the original sized ones left the 'tail wagging' over the edge of the screen - so ended up buying a 21" (525 mm/21” Size 11 - WS53EFB) and a 19" (475 mm/19” Size 8 - WS48EFB).

Hmmm. When I get a shorter OEM one I think I will get it with a spoiler too - good idea

And if I ever get the urge to change again then I will not be going cheap - I'll probably shell out for the above.

I have Bosch aero wipers and because of the curvature and size of the Z windscreen the passenger side doesn't sit flush but they are 100x better than the OEM ones.

I tried those on my focus. i got them from costco so they would have been a decent brand but i cant remember which. they were ok but not that good. they missed bits. the main bit was a triangle in the middle lower half for the screen so not so bad. mine were also the retro fit type.

conversely a friend fitted them to his car and they were great. then he fitted them to his work van and they were shite.

coincidentally his van and the focus both used the retro fit type fitting and we both noticed the same thing. the wiper arm sat much higher on the screen than the older original style. i think that this made a difference as speed increased as it didn't push down as hard due to the changed angle of operation of the arm and maybe in my case an older spring.

My Z came with some flat wipers fitted. Not sure of the brand but I will check because I've haven't noticed any issues with bad fitment etc

I had aero wipers on my Crossfire and never had any issues with lift at speed. They gave a good wipe too.
I was worried after I ordered them but for the price you can't go wrong, I will deff use them again.

I had aerowipers on my z4 convertible... they are great albeit the passenger side one doesnt sit plush on the window as the screen curves at the edge

I'm in desperate need of some new wipers. I didn't think the newer aero wipers would suit the Z4 though. Any pictures to disprove my theory?

Nice profile picture of JB !

Right, as requested, here's the photo's of my PIAA 'Super Sporza Silicone Wiper Carrier and Blade with Spoiler' wipers in 21" and 19"...

mmm-five, they look just right, and the passenger one looks flush to the screen at the tip

Think I'll get a 19" Bosch one with a spoiler and see how that goes.

If nobody else gets lifting and juddering with aeros perhaps I am driving a bit fast

Not with the flat blades on the zed, they seem fine.... However.....

On Weds night I was returning from Poole, driving the wife's Passat along the A46 in driving rain and blustery wind, when the wiper blades were ripped off the front of the car and flung into the darkness - leaving me blinded ! The Passat has flat blades as standard, so was a bit shocked that they could be pulled out of the sockets by a cross wind - thought I was going to lose the windscreen too when the wiper arms slammed back :o

Ended up pulling over, hitting the hazards, and walking for a mile or so to Compton to the BP garage where I purchased the only set of wiper blades available - a set that had seen better days, for a VW Tora (no, never heard of it either....). Obviously they didn't fit, so ended up concocting a solution using said wipers, and (thankfully unused) dog poo sacks. Worked to a fashion..... ;) but will not be marketing a bespoke set of wiper blade replacements :)

Mine came with Aero wipes when I got it, so when the time came to change them I also opted for cheap eBay items (having wasted money on expensive brands previously that didn't work any better). So far I've had them on since January and I must admit there perfect.

I had the aero wipers when I first got the Zed, but changed to Bosch ones as I didn't like the swipe. £8.88 Inc delivery from car parts 4 less.

Could you post a pic of the passenger side wiper from another angle to show how much it actually sticks out? In the picture facing the car head on, it seems to be lifted quite a bit..
