Aero Side Skirts

Hi guys,

After some aero side skirts for the Imola M.
I understand they're rare as hell and very slim chance someone will sell theirs but hey worth asking the question.

I've seen the eBay ones but they're not in the right colour and £1k is a little too high when they still need painting.

Drop me a PM if you have anything, don't mind damaged as long as they're repairable.

Thanks

hen's teeth...unicorn poo... just as rare, I fear...

I think the only chance is a wrecked car (with intact aero sills) and/or make copies out of a set. Whoever is capable of doing that could make a few bobs...

Interesting. I wonder how much people would be prepared to pay for OEM quality replica aero skirts if there were a company that made them. Somewhere between £250-£450 maybe (?) :driving:

Hello baconjazz,

I'm not sure but I bet there would be quite a lot of interest... I, for one, would be happy to pay a figure in that range...

Do you know anyone who could make a replica?

There have been a lot of threads about this, https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=117102&start=30 being one of them.

I'm sure there was another last year. Just seems to be elusive each time :(

The costs of getting it to the point of sale along with the very limited pool of potential buyers means its highly unlikely a privately made alternative will ever come to fruition .

Agreed Mr. Wilks,

it would have to be a "labour of love" by somebody who has the skills and the time... I would be happy to put a deposit down and I am sure others would too.

I would be interesting to see if there is anyone who can actually make them and if they are available to give it a go...

Hardly an expert but I’d have thought the problem would be keeping them relatively flexible and making the mounting points.

I'm not so sure how limited the pool would be . There are many Zed owners throughout the globe from Cape town to Canada that seem to be nuts over these things. It would be an interesting exorcise to poll all the forums Internationally just to see how many potential buyers there might be .

Let's start a poll, then we should find someone capable of manufacturing them...

A friend of mine who knows a bit about manufacturing told me that he doubts that BMW would have destroyed the original moulds for this product. I wonder if they would consider re-manufacturing the aero skirts if they were confident that the demand was there.

I think if you do a search and read back on the last few threads on the subject of re-manufacturing, polls, copies etc you'll see they never really got off the ground for numerous reasons. Ideas and theories are all good but logistics, investment and asking billion pound companies isn't so straightforward in the end...

The moulds to make these sort or large items cost a huge amount of money. I work for a PPE company and we have just developed a new safety helmet and the tooling mould was 100k, thats just tool not the dev and it was months of work, its also just the shell not the rest of the pieces that make up the product. The helmet is more intricate but is much much smaller.

If you want an aeros its often cheaper to buy a cheap early Z4 with aero kit installed. An early 3.0 sold on ebay with 120k recently for £1500...
