Aero side skirts?

I saw them the other week. I did wonder if the shiny metalic line could be removed and then the indentation filled. Probably never get a good enough finish. It would be interesting if anyone would admit to doing it though as the rest of the proportion and lines look similar.

Yep, I’ve had the same thoughts about these. I doubt a body shop would find it too difficult to fill the indentation and get a good finish to match the look of the genuine aero skirts.

I did email a stockist for these to see if they could provide more detailed photos and confirm what they are made from but they never responded, so I didn’t pursue it further.

It would be nice to hear from anyone who has fitted these in the past.

What about these? Might get expensive with postage perhaps. B7A1102C-0605-47FC-8689-119F452C1777.png

These certainly look very similar to the genuine aero skirts and appear to have the same cut outs and fitting tabs etc. I think they’re made of fibre glass so not sure how much work is involved in fitting and finishing them. I don’t think they ship outside the USA though :(

When I looked at these they were in stock but from your screenshot they are now shown as out of stock, so they are obviously selling them. It would be nice to get feedback from anyone who has fitted them.....

FRP is Fibre-reinforced plastic - so yes, fibreglass in it :)

:tumbleweed: Hi everyone, was wondering if this aero side skirt moulding creation was still going on or not? I know the thread is not super old, but no activity lately. And of course right is still available from BMW. Very very tempted to get the duraflex at $156 ($100 shipping), but unsure of the quality and what not. That or just ride around with a right one haha. Also I was thinking, couldn't someone just make a higher quality mould of the duraflex one?

Are these good? Or too similar to fiberglass?

Hi Julian,
not sure if Leonardip is still making aero skirts. They looked good quality but sadly the shipping costs to UK proved too expensive. You could try contacting him maybe?
You might find this post helpful;- https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=117102
Good luck with the search,

Dave, you fitted yours yet?

I think this epic thread deserves to end with some of your pics, then maybe locked by the mods for immortality

Hi,

I may have found a contact for shipping items from the USA to Europe (friend of a friend)... maybe it would become viable to contact ModeloDrive and organise a "group buy" if shipping fees are reasonable.

I will be happy to explore in more detail if there is interest...

Let me know

[ref]davros[/ref], Thank you, I gave it a read through and the quality looked great, just shipping really killed the deal. I did realize the post was about shipping to U.K. members, do you know where Leonardip is located because I am in the U.S.? Also, do you know the quality of the Duraflex? I read they were not just fiberglass and consisted of other materials mashed together it seemed. They seem tempting for $156.
Thanks again for the link.

Hi Attilio,

Granted I was unaware of the existence of aero skirts until recently, however I'm slowly but surely realising that I absolutely need and must have some.....even if they will be less noticeable on a Sapphire black coupe. I think it's a side effect of exposure to this forum (although that's just speculation for now).

If you happen to pursue this, and it's financially viable, consider me interested.

Hi Calps!

I am kicking myself for not having pursued this 2 years ago... but hey, no point recriminating!

I will investigate as soon as my friend settles in her new home and hopefully, we will get visibility of shipment costs for, let's say, 10 units (in a single shipment) then we can see if we have any takers.

I will try to contact ModeloDrive to get an idea of the size of the crate... if not, the only alternative I can think of is to go there in person and jam a few inside a "kind of golf bag" and bring it back as "sports goods" on the flight back. Then it would be a case of paying duty on the spot... probably a bit of a mad idea

P.S. I am not willing to pay £1,000 plus for a second hand set! (for the moment)

Hahaha - sounds a good idea Jem

They are currently decorated in tinsel for Xmas, but will get them fitted when the Zed comes out of winter storage 🤞

That could be very interesting for someone with space and time to break it up. The full aero kit has gotta be £2k on its own these days 😬
