Aero kit + new springs = lots of pics

That's superb Matt 8)

When you mention a 21mm drop, did you previous have the Sport suspension? i.e. are these 21mm from non-Sport height, or just 6mm lower than a Sport-suspensioned Z4? (just wondering if they're a smaller drop than the 30mm-from-non-sport Eibach springs).

I can't help thinking you're braver than me: lowering AND an aero front end!I couldn't survive on the roads/speed humps around that way with a deeper front bumper...

I'm thinking of ordering the Aero package on my new car, the height looks to be the same as yours at the front, do you have any problem with speed bumps? :)

Thanks Ally. I would have wanted Eibachs but the offset wouldn't work with 30mm. The drop is from the standard height - it has gone from something like 67cm to just under 65cm, at least when they were fresh on. So it should be a little lower than the standard 3.0 height.

It does look low, but then it did previously - JonnyFive and I were parked side by side and he was convinced I'd had mine lowered, it was only when we checked the gap between the tyre and the wheel arch that it showed mine was higher. It must be the offset.

Not encountered any speed bumps yet. I still have those horrid BMW springs and part of the reason for fitting them myself was so it didn't cost me if I needed to swap back.

Looks fantastic, aero skirts and front really finish off the drop.

Are you running M profile tyres then?

Personally i would leave the front plate off (allows you to go as fast as you want on the average speed cameras  ) ... I had a half size show plate on the front of my S2K for 2 years and never got pulled.

Looks reaaly good, but nethertheless a bit too low for my taste.
The wheel arch goes too "wide" on the lower part of the arch, and looks too close to the tire on the top. Il like it better when it looks like the center of the arch of the center of the wheel, something like a constant gap all around the edge of the tire.
But again, that's my taste and i still think your car looks terrific.

aquazi, no, these are standard profile tyres - but I know on the sports (-15mm) setup there can be contact with M wheels and tyres, so running a few mm lower with the correct tyres, I should be okay.

As for the plate, I keep one on the dash if I don't want to run the risk of being late - will probably do the same when going into cities - especially London! Am looking at getting a vinyl plate to fit at the top of the window, passenger side.

Kryton, sorry, missed this before, we must have been posting at the same time... not tried any speed bumps yet... am almost tempted to seek some out to test it.

Shooter, ha, I know exactly what you mean - I prefer a constant gap around the wheel.

To be honest, it is not as bad as it looks in the photos, if the car is level. Of course I don't have a side on picture there, but this gives an idea...

But you are right, it does sit slightly lower than I would like. However the standard 2.5 height was slightly too tall the other way. These springs are as close as I could get to the 3.0 height without fitting the crappy BMW ones.

No seriously looks great :) . What are those wheels?

The same as yours, standard M wheels - it's why they stick out so much. Had them refurbed at Lepsons, in dark anthracite - I say refurbed, I bought them off of mmm-five so of course they were in excellent condition, was pretty much just a colour change.

wow mate looks really good..... answered my question on what a lowered aerokit looks like.

don't think up here post winter pot holes i could get away with it.

love aerofronts and clears.... but just a little biased ...

well done good to see the projects are still coming !

Looking good Matt,
Can't wait to see it in the flesh later this year
As an aside just had my wheels refurbed by a local firm (to me) so far very impressed by the finish caught the sun brilliantly today.
Still got body work and exhaust changes planned for this year, just need the money to pay for it all.

ZermattV, thanks - in theory ride heights should be *ahem* similar, we can compare. With the snow tyres on I may be clearing roads next winter! I need to get a Mr Plough jacket made up.

RichardG, be good to compare notes, be interested to see what you're doing first hand. You'll be pleased to hear the exhaust is still getting comments - surprisingly positive for a BMW!

ksher, thanks. They're dark anthracite but the finish means they can look quite different depending on the light. A mate picked the wheels up from Lepsons for me, apparently a few of the guys there were standing around admiring their handiwork.

And A11y, was a little worried after your earlier comments, so took a detour around Waitrose on the way home, cleared all of their sleeping policemen fine. Even if they weren't the highest. However I will now be approaching them a 0.01mph

Hi Matt. Just been looking through this thread as missed it the first time. Car's looking lovely - more so because of that plate less front. Know you're carrying around the plate to stick on the dash when relevant but have you sorted the vinyl option yet and if so, what's it like - size, placement etc? Really interested in removing the front plate on mine although living in London I fear I may be asking for trouble with the local five-o.

Five-o would be a pain in London... I tend to put my plate on the dash when I get into town. If I remember. I'll get a vinyl plate ordered from eBay soon. So far I've passed 10-15 cars and nothing.
