Just got my new stubby aerial today went to fit and as unscrewed old whippy aerial its snapped with thread still in base
Any ideas please

Hi rossonr.

And there I was thinking my first mod would be a nice and "simple" aerial change. Not talking from experience but maybe score a groove and use a screw driver. Or similarly drill a tiny whole and get a small screw driver in. I haven't taken the z4 aerial out so not sure if any of the suggestions will even be possible,

Or maybe a bit of glue of some sort on the end of a small screwdriver. This might run the risk of getting on the thread though...

Thanks Raj
I also thought would be easy haha will try the drilling out and hopefully that will work.
I've got some black grills coming so hoping its going to be an easier fix that the aerial.
Thanks Ray

I'm afraid it sounds more like a new base unit.

If it's snapped taking the whip out then there's some fair amount or torque been applied and a screwdrivers worth probably wont move it - unless the penetrating oil takes some effect?

Good luck mate! Looks like we're going down the same route with the first mods. Our cars seem similar spec too! Which aerial and grilles have you gone for?

Carefully drill a small hole in the centre of what's left of the threaded part and then use a stud extractor to remove it.

Not really any of threaded bit showing. I'm going to try drilling tomorrow and see if that works. That's for advice people. Helps a lots

I don't think you're the first it's happened to!

Probably no consolation but you can always add a new base .

(Get penetrating oil in before you start - and be patient, let the stuff work)

Buy yourself a set of easy outs and drill a little hole, or could try a little centre punch, and try tapping it out.

I was gonig to suggest the centre punch idea. Try and make a small hole at an angle, get the centre punch and just tap it out slowly... Turns out practical skills at college were useful after all!

Just a suggestion and I'm sure you will but take the base off the car before attempting to drill it, you don't want to turn an annoyance into a disaster.

I just changed my arial for a small one was very easy twist off twist new one on. If the metal is still sticking out get some grips on it or someone needs to drill it out

I got mine in wilkinsons

Haha whippy is dead. When rain stops will get out there and sort the stubby. Thanks for all suggestions and telling me how easy yours was to remove. I will persevere and once done start on my other planner mods. The bug has got me

Well that was a task and a half. Had to take aerial base off drill the bolt and re thread all in all a five minute job took over 2 hours. Took my time so no damage done to any part and pleased with result
