Advise On Wheels and Tyres

Hi All,

Unsure where to post this but thought "Wheels and Tyres" would be the preferred spot.

Unfortunately this is not Zed relating but I am after some advise if possible?

Whilst parking the OH's car last night, I caught her alloy on the curb :headbang:
And as expected she was not best pleased with me this morning, so onto the Interweb I went this morning trying to find if I could either find a new alloy in the same style as hers, or alternatively try and find an old set of wheels in reasonable condition including tyres so she can still get to work whilst her wheels are being refurbished.

However, the problems I face are the below:
1. I cannot find a set of wheels and tyres in the size / offset / PCD that she needs
2. The ones I do find are in really crappy condition and are pretty unable to use legally
3. I preferably want to sell on again once the OH gets her wheels back.

So my question for you is this - Does anyone know of a place where I can buy a set of wheels with tyres that are in a decent (Resalable) condition that's not going to break the bank at the same time?

I have scouted the obvious like Ebay, Gumtree etc and have not really found anything.

The wheel fitment on there at the moment are -
7j x 17"
5x100 PCD
ET-43 Offset.

Any advise would be great as I want to get this sorted ASAP (Just to keep the missus happy!) :poke:

Cheers!
Dan.

Both Toyota Celica and Subaru Impreza are 5x100 fitment, with an offset of 35, so you may be able to search ebay for wheels that will fit these, the 8mm shouldnt cause too many issues assuming the car is not lowered or anything like that.

Cheers for that.

I did see quite a few Jap car wheels upon my search on Ebay but I wasn't sure if I would need spigot rings or something as the centre bore might be a touch different?

Do they make a spacesaver spare for her car? If so, it would work for a few days (bearing in mind the speed limits for spacesavers) and should be easy enough to sell on.

Most aftermarket wheels will come with a centre bore of 73.1 (or there abouts), so you should easily be able to just buy correct spigot rings for your OH's car. If I remember rightly, the celica is 54.1 and impreza is 56.1.

I am unsure on this but seeing as she curbed the O/S/R wheel, it'd be good to get both refurbished at the same time - just to save hassle

That's good to know, just been a massive :headbang: trying to find a decent set with decent tyres (That are legal at least!)

Thanks for the info though, tis much appreciated!

Have you thought about just hiring a car for the day whilst they are refurbed?

I would but seeing as we are 21 and 22 respectively, most companies won't let you hire a car until you're 25 and the ones that do charge an extortionate rate per day with huge excesses, so just less hassle to buy some wheels.

It is. It's a 2013 Seat Ibiza FR, what 18's have you got?

I have 2 sets of genuine VAG Ronal 5 x 100 recently refurbed / a bit OTT for your needs 8)

Cheers mate, nice wheels you have there, from a MK1 TT are they not?

I've not long got off the phone to SEAT, there's a dealer within walking distance from us so they said take it in, they'll see if it's repairable (should be, it's only a graze, no actual curbing) and give is a quote and she'll get a courtesy car whilst the work is being carried out.
Hopefully get it to them tomorrow and see what they say.

Thanks for the help guys! :D

You could always arrange for a mobile wheel tech to go to her work or come to your home on a Saturday

Most wheel refurb places will bolt on some spare alloys whilst they do the refurb, to allow use of the car.

So the OH isn't that fussed on her wheel so don't have to rush around.. bit of a result :D

Have got the car booked into SEAT next week to see what they say and how much their wheel refurbs are.

Thanks for the advice

Cheers
Dan.
