advice - tpms sensors don't fit

So I have a set of 4 BMW OE TPMS sensors & a set of aftermarket wheels which are 'TPMS ready'. However the valve stem of the sensors do not clamp down on the rim, leaving about 2mm of play. Has anyone come across this problem & if so how did you solve it?

Could you not fab a spacer ring so the unthreaded portion of the TPMS was bridged ?

The aftermarket wheel wall is obviously too thin in comparison to OEM..... maybe ask the manufacturer what the fix is ?

There's actually enough thread on the TPMS barrel, it's that the barrel has a ridge about 2/3 of the way down the inside which causes it to lock about 1.5-2mm away from seating properly. If that was to be removed it would be okay. :headbang:

Had a look at these when is was looking at winter set-up. Can you not use some rubber to make some spacers up ? How much were the sensors if you don't mind me asking ? Still think about a winter set, just the tpms sensors putting me off :(

In the end I got a friend to machine out the lip on the inside of the outer valve stem.

I paid £155 for a set of 4 shipped from Germany (ebay 311414057242).

Had the same problem when I transferred my winter wheels from a 2009 Z4 to a 2014, meaning I had to have TPMS fitted. Bought the sensors from my local BMW garage, but took them to a local tyre fitter for installation - he had to give up in the end, couldn't get them to sit flush! Went back to BMW and the service manager said that there is a very specific (and fiddly) process. Left the wheels with them and they sorted it.

I finally got a reply from the OEM, installation with the standard HUF barrel, not the OE, is very simple.
1. Fit the inner valve barrel into the sensor, loosely.
2. Install into the wheel finger tight only, at this point the sensor should be lose on the wheel
3. Pressing the sensor body flat against the inside of the wheel torque down the outer barrel to 4Nm. This must be done with a torque wrench.
4. If during the torque down process you may feel a sensation similar to that of stripping the thread, this is normal. Continue to tighten the outer valve barrel to 4nm, you may need to finger tighten the barrel again if the rim is very thin walled.

Note: if step 4 occurs then the outer barrel should be replaced every time the sensor is removed from the wheel.

The BMW OE barrels are designed to work with BMW OE wheels & may not work with aftermarket wheels.

Did the sensor have to be coded after fitting ? Called dealer today for prices on sensors, £291 for 4
Think it will be the German ones. Tried to contact them via eBay without success. Any problems ?
Cheers

http://www.tpmswarehouse.co.uk I really can't remember the cost but considerably cheaper than the dealer. You need to order two front and two rear. The downside is a report of low pressure will tell you front or rear problem. Right or left might not be correct so you will need to check manually. There is a 50% chance of being correct!

Got a price from dealer today £291 for 4  think I might forget the winter setup !
