Advice required re. car insurance - UK

I need advice from those here in the UK.
Car insurance.
Who are you with and how much?
I've been quoted for the renual £475 fully comp. for my Z4M. No NCB (i had to teansfer the 6y NCB to my daily).3000 miles / year.
Thanks in advanced.

I found Chris Knott insurance brokers - as on this board very helpful. Much more competitive than my other two existing insurers Motorhome and (sensible) car. Had same issue with NCB and just had to show I had it on another policy. They want to see experience with high performance rear wheel drive cars also. Very good service.

I insured through autonet last year. £180 for me and the better half, fully comp with zero no claims. It'll be due up in June.

I've been with Classicline on all my Zs.
Insured as future classics. & NCB doesn't factor.
Never paid over £350 Yr on any of them so maybe worth a call

If it's a second car at 3000 miles per year you have a good chance with classic insurance. Try Footman James.

It is impossible to go by what other people are paying, there are so many things that affect insurance prices e.g. where you live, where you park, your age, driving record, claims record.

Ref your NCD, some insurers will mirror NCD if you insure a second car with them, so you end up with the same NCD on both.

The price is also often affected by how much excess, so a given company may quote £500 for a £50 excess but £275 for a £700 excess. Given the state of our roads, it is also worth looking at windscreen excess, be aware that some insist on particular glass fitters with cheap aftermarket glass. I have read somewhere on this forum aftermarket glass is not good. Some insurers will let you goto BMW and have original glass fitted. Finally in case a claim should ever be necessary, check reviews from customers who have made claims (beware defacto, stars are feature based), some cheaper insurers are reported to be a nightmare to deal with in a claim and offer next to nothing if car written off (that's how they get the price down).

As i have posted on a previous thread, be very careful if insuring with Admiral.

I've just taken out a multi car policy with Aviva for my Z4MC and the wifes fiat 500. Quotes were around 550ish with protected NCD and legal cover for the Z and 300 for the fiat. Ended up getting both for £711, which I was really happy with. Admiral were around 80 quid cheaper, but when I went to take out the insurance they wouldn't cover me for the £4000 of extras on the car, (wheels, exhaust, carbon intake). This was really strange as when you are on the website doing quotes, there is a drop down menu with maybe 40 different options for modifications to the car. I ticked the 3 which applied to mine and added the value. When I rang up to go through it with a fine tooth comb, they said they would not cover me for the mods...but I was right to declare them. They said as I had told them, I would be covered for the replacement standard car, but not the cost of the mods if it was written off. If I hadn't told them about the mods, wrote it off and they found out, the policy would be void. So, if you have any mods at all, don't go with admiral.
Did exactly the same with Aviva, and have everything declared and covered....great!

I do this exact thing with Admiral and somehow ended up paying less to insure my Z4MC than I do my E82 123d, same annual mileage for both.

Thanks for your comments guys. I am still 3 weeks away from the end of my current policy with Aviva. However and the more time I spend looking at quotes from other companies the more bored I get with the whole thing! That, plus the fact that renewal quote from Aviva is not crazy money AND that i have nothing but praise to the way theyve handle other issues in the past I think I will end up sticking with them. 'Better the devil you know...' and all of that

I've just gone through all the annual chasing around nonsense for my daily, and it does get a bit tedious!

Aviva seem to have a good reputation, so if cost is reasonable I can see why you might choose to stay with them.
