Advice required now - re services and counter

I'm currently at a BMW dealer in Hampshire. Came to get my oil service. So the guy has looked at my service book and agreed that I do need an oil service but that the car has indeed been over serviced. It had an Insp 2 prematurely by the non BMW dealer I bought it from in Mar 2012 (all services before were correct time/mileage and BMW). Then it should have been an oil service. This has screwed up my counter now as it says 2000 miles to Insp 2. So if they do the oil service the counter will be wrong and start counting down minus. He says that either they can:
1) Reset counter as they would normally - except it's not having an insp 2 as the counter indicates
2) leave counter alone and then in 1.5 year when I get Insp 1 it will all tally up. It will look bad to next buyer if it says minus.. But if I explain that it has more services in the time they should understand.

What should I do?

I'd reset the counter personally, particularly if you're thinking of selling in the next year and a half...only my opinion.

and this assumes you have the service book stamped up clearly with what has been done...

Either way you will need to explain to the next buyer because if you reset now it will be due before the counter says it's due.

So are you having an oil service on time or mileage?

Did they not reset the counter when they did inspection 2 then?

Or do an oil change? I thought that was part of ins 2 :?

It wasn't due then so don't know if they could have? But seems not

It was done in Mar 2012 Insp 2 and oil change and brake fluid done.
So I guess I ought to have had oil service 6 months ago..
They're doing oil and brake now. The brake fluid light is coming on but I could have waited till next Mar.
The counter is out of sync :o
This is all too complicated for little ole me

They could have reset it. Chances are though they didn't even do it properly. Bet they never checked the shims.

Ok, so they did the Ins 2, but didn't reset the indicator which is saying it should have its normal inspection 2 in a few thousand miles!

Basically as said, you will have to explain either way as neither will be correct.

I may be missing something Ruby, but if Ins 2 was done along with Oil and Brake fluid in a March 2012 then you don't need another oil and brake fluid until March 2014?

Aahh Unless ofcourse you've done the mileage, I'm stupid :headbang:

I've done 10,000 miles since Mar 2012, never had a service of any kind since purchase till now.

That seems incorrect. IMmie had an out of cycle inspection II and now the counter is counting down to an oil service. They seemed able to tell it what service it had last had.

Odd :?

They've now managed to sort the computer display out and everything is in sync so panic over for now :)

I know even BMW screw them up, think PVR's is out of sync as the dealer reset on an oil service when requested not to.

I stuck a postit note on my instrument panel as a reminder, just like the do not wash sign on the passenger seat.

Ye I would have it reset. The next buyer would be non the wiser as most likely it will need another oil/brake fluid service in two years not an inspection 1 unless you do a lot more miles.

Also wouldn't be worried about a premature insp2 because an over serviced car is better than an under serviced one.

But the problem with non BMW or BMW specialist servicing. They don't know what the cars needs. Fortunately it's worked out ok.

Mine had an Ins2 slightly pre mature and the counter was counting down to an inspection not an oil they just printed out the history and the diagnostic machine sorted it. So don't worry :)
