Just picked-up my new shiny toy yesterday and drove the 150km back home with a big smile on my face….It’s a May 2019 model and immaculately prepared.

The dealer threw into the deal a ceramic coating, with 24 months guarantee with the usual insurance ‘get out clauses’ which make you wonder whether you would ever get money out of a claim…. Ah hum. :rolleyes:

As a newby ‘rag-top’ , I am looking to my experienced brethren on how to keep my toy shining like new…
1) protection cover
I have done a little bit of research, eg on Amazon but mixed results… ‘difficult to fit on a rag top’ ;’ falls to pieces / degrades within 12 months’ etc
The car is going to be for pleasure trips and is kept in a garage shared with my wife’s car. Not to say she would ever put her shopping bag my car ;)… but to leave the garage, everyone has to pass by the Z4 … so accidents happen….and there is still the crap in the air… that get’s blown in.

Any recommendations ?

2) treatment for the textile…
When she is out and about, an parked somewhere, we have exposure to lot’s of sun, trees, kamikaze insects and our feathered friends.
Which product(s) have you good experience with? How often should it be treated?

I saw an early thread with reference to a product by Gtechnic, but struggle to find it.

I went through a few outdoor car covers for a mini and an MX5. All degraded quicker than I’d like but never had a problem with rubbing paintwork which some might comment on. If you’re putting the car in a garage then I’d guess that degrading is much less of an issue since the cover won’t be exposed to wind/rain/sun etc.
 
The car is kept in the garage, but after a week it was covered in a film of dust. So I bought Walsers Interior cover, and I am very pleased with the result. The medium size is a perfect fit for the Z, and only 2-3 minutes to install.

Having worked in the plastics industry for most of my business life, it is extremely difficult to have polymer-based textile covers that can survive outdoor weathering and particularly UV rays without going to very expensive materials and/ or loading them up with expensive UV stabilizer packages. I expect most that you find on Amazon and the like. will fall apart after 2 years.
 
I wouldnt bother, mine was covered by a previous owner unless its immaculately clean the contact causes scratches and on black paint it will look awful in no time.

Mines an E85 but with a consumer grade DA, pad and ultimate compound, it took forever to get them out and some i couldnt without we sanding.

As little contact as possible is what I would suggest even with ceramic etc
