advice please.....

Have you erased all the previous bluetooth couplings like it says in the manual?

What car do you have? (last 7 digits of your vin)

There used to be a list of the ULF part numbers here http://www.bimmernav.com/index.html

You should be ok if you get an older or newer generation, but best to get the newest gen you can.

^ I think that list is pre-facelift only (not sure).
That's why he needs to give his VIN. With that you can see the factory fitted option code (like eg. SA633A etc)
There are multiple systems, afaik not interchangeable. Best use ETK for compatibility.

There are 13 ULF modules that will all fit and work in your car.

General advice is to never buy a Gen 1 and try to get Gen 4 or later.

Available part numbers of the Bluetooth ULF from BMW

84 21 6 934 552 end of life 06/03 1st generation
84 21 6 938 610 end of life 10/03 2nd generation
84 21 6 934 961 end of life 03/04 3rd generation
84 21 6 950 089 end of life 06/04 4th generation

84 21 6 945 387 end of life 01/05 5th generation

84 10 6 955 522 end of life 10/05 6th generation

84 10 6 969 268 end of life 04/06 7th generation

84 21 6 958 358 end of life 05/06 8th generation

84 10 6 987 546 end of life 9/06 9th generation

84 10 6 980 130 end of life 11/06 10th generation

84 10 9 133 329 end of life 01/07 11th generation

84 10 9 145 007 end of life 05/07 12th generation

84 10 9 154 358 current production 13th generation

The later the generation the more functionality and more phones it seemingly mates to and works with, although I found little difference between about 5 I've tried across 2 BMW's

Here's an example of a Gen 1 (not to buy)... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/bmw-e87-e46-e39-e53-e83-e85-e86-ULF-Module-6934552-Bluetooth-Steuergeraet-/191541788529?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_77&hash=item2c98c7bf71

Yes - 100% straight plug and play if it's one of those 13 numbered ULF''s
I did extensive research years ago when I retrofitted it.

plowy, what is yours doing exactly. I have just had to repair my phone after wiping it and it would not play.

The car just showed searching and the phone didn't find anything either. The answer was to delete the previous pairings.

Ignition to 0
Press the pairing button for 3 seconds
turn ignition to one whilst still holding pairing button
release button after three seconds.
wait a second or two and then press the pairing button for around ten seconds until you here 3 beeps. This will delete all paired phones and then go straight back to pairing at which point do a search on your phone.

Worked first time for me after doing the above.

Srhutch ...it's just completely none responsive to any commands, numerous try's at wiping previous pairings no response, and no success pairing different phones,,,

It just stopped working from one day to another?
(no phones switched, having work done to the car etc etc?)

So can you give the last 7 digits of your vin?
As we're pretty much looking in the dark what system you exactly have in your car.. (thats why I asked that in my first reply)

I think Phil has pretty much covered it all in his post but if it makes a difference my module is 05/06 8th generation.....

You sure its not the button in the centre console. I have trouble with mine when i need to pair a new phone, theres a break in the cable so it only works with the door just open.

Good call the wiring harness can wear and chaff at that point but not so ,,have eliminated this...thanks
