^ I think that list is pre-facelift only (not sure).
That's why he needs to give his VIN. With that you can see the factory fitted option code (like eg. SA633A etc)
There are multiple systems, afaik not interchangeable. Best use ETK for compatibility.
There are 13 ULF modules that will all fit and work in your car.
General advice is to never buy a Gen 1 and try to get Gen 4 or later.

The later the generation the more functionality and more phones it seemingly mates to and works with, although I found little difference between about 5 I've tried across 2 BMW's
Here's an example of a Gen 1 (not to buy)... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/bmw-e87-e46-e39-e53-e83-e85-e86-ULF-Module-6934552-Bluetooth-Steuergeraet-/191541788529?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_77&hash=item2c98c7bf71
plowy, what is yours doing exactly. I have just had to repair my phone after wiping it and it would not play.
The car just showed searching and the phone didn't find anything either. The answer was to delete the previous pairings.
Ignition to 0
Press the pairing button for 3 seconds
turn ignition to one whilst still holding pairing button
release button after three seconds.
wait a second or two and then press the pairing button for around ten seconds until you here 3 beeps. This will delete all paired phones and then go straight back to pairing at which point do a search on your phone.
Srhutch ...it's just completely none responsive to any commands, numerous try's at wiping previous pairings no response, and no success pairing different phones,,,
So can you give the last 7 digits of your vin?
As we're pretty much looking in the dark what system you exactly have in your car.. (thats why I asked that in my first reply)
You sure its not the button in the centre console. I have trouble with mine when i need to pair a new phone, theres a break in the cable so it only works with the door just open.
