advice please

I have a recognizable noise almost like the engine is groaning when I pull off and especially when I'm in second gear in low ratio such as maneuvering around a car park.

I have had it into the garage as its got two year warranty (with one year left). They tightened up all the heatshields etc but its still doing it. I'm very sure its not mechanical as its like a vibration rather than anything else. She runs like a dream other than that.

I took it back to the garage and the guy at the desk told me that diagnosing it may not be part of the warranty. This is a significant noise which I feel needs to be sorted out by the dealer (this is not a BMW dealer). Any thoughts on the noise or even better some guidance so I can ensure that the dealer gives me some customer service?

The dealer has booked me in with a technician so I can drive it and show him the problem...something they didn't do the first time I had it in.

I've looked at other posts but cant find anything that would give me the leverage to ensure they jump to it? Ive noticed that a couple of people have had new catalytic converters as part of their warranty with similar sounding problems?

Is it a rotational noise or a noise that increases with revs? Does it only happen when you're turning one way or the other?

How 'low ratio' are you talking about in 2nd gear? Are you straining the engine by trying to use 1000rpm everywhere?

Is the warranty with the dealer or something you've taken out privately? What do the warranty terms state about diagnosis (e.g. BMW will only authorise about 30 mins of free diagnosis time)?

Its like a groan but only initially as the revs go up it dissapears. It happens particularly at the in-between points of a gear when you should change from 3rd to second and second to first. Thats when its at its obvious. Its not lazy driving...one example would be if you are moving and should be in second gear such as driving around a multi story car park is when it really sounds obvious...its def linked to revs but doesnt sound mechanical if that makes sense.

any thoughts?

Can you post a video or link to a YouTube video? Might be easier to diagnose.
 
Just had it in with a technician and they think its the belt and pulley. The pulley is covered in warranty but not the belt....does that sound ok to everyone?
Any advice or thoughts would be good?
