Advice Please My audio sounds like utter crap

Hi i am looking to make the audio in my z4 2007 2.5 a whole lot better at the moment it sounds like garbage.
It has a kenwood head unit driving two four inch door speakers and tweeters plus the two rear 4 inchers the footwell 6.5 inch are driven from an alpine amp in the boot which does not seem to have power at so they are not working. the footwell speakers seem to have been changed out with full range units with built in tweeters. i a thinking of ditching the lot and putting in proper sized speakers with a sub for soundstage extension any ideas welcome i am in essex any shop or installer recommendations would be great.
Hope you are all having a happy easter.

Sounds like you need to either get the amp going or fit a new one before you can make a valid judgment on it!

The multi meter will be out tomorrow so i will get the amp going but the 4 inch units sound awful i know they would sound better with the sixes running but they are too horrible to stay. :D

Having spent a few hours thinking about this i was wondering whether it was possible to replace the fours behind the seats with 6x9s and cut the cubbies out and fit two ten inch subs with the fronts just being replaced with focal units i know this would involve a bit of cutting about and was wondering if i had space to mount them discreetly i know i would have to amp up. Any thoughts ?

Try a different headunit, I’ve been using a Pioneer 80PRS reference unit while my favourite unit an Alpine CDE178BT was in for repair, it couldn’t come close even with setting up and messing about with an RTA! The Alpine is a far nicer unit.

So try a different headunit first and see how you get on, I’m fitting an Audison F8.9bit amp and Audison components all round in my Z4 when I get the chance.

The 4” rears are difficult to get to as you have to remove a ton of trim. I don’t really see how you could get 10” subs where the cubbys are either, just no easy way to mount them.

My approach was to disconnect the 4” rears completely and use the speaker wires as high level inputs for an amp mounted on the rear firewall. This then drove some full range 6” units in the cubbys. I always thought the front end sounded pretty good as standard so I left that alone.
