Advice on where to stay in Austria

Planning a two week vacation next May, so I'm now searching for some clean and affordable places to stay as I travel the country. I'll be visiting the most popular tourist areas and the only other particular criterias I have are for a private, in-room washroom and included parking space (for my rental car).

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The only place I have stayed at in Austria was the Von Trapp family home near Salzburg. Yes! It was The Sound of Music Von Trapps. It was not cheap though. In fact nothing around Salzburg is cheap. I have found great deals on vacation rental web sites. http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rentals/austria/r16 So not only would you get a house or apartment. You can save big by cooking your breakfast before heading out. Make sure your rental includes the vignette.

Thanks, but I'm looking for multiple locations since I won't be staying more than a few days in each city. Trying to plan some home bases in Vienna, Innsbruck, Salzburg and Graz.

BTW, I've stayed at the Trapp family lodge in Stowe, Vermont in the U.S. Classy place.
