Advice on this Z4 Coupe deal price please?

Hi all, I`m new here but have been looking for a Z4 coupe for a while to replace my Megane R26 F1 Team 230

I`m about to chop in my Megane R26 for a Coupe but I`ve already had several conflicting opinions on wether it is a good deal or not. I`d be grateful if you guys could give me your views....

The car I`m looking at is at bmw franchise so its "used approved" with a 12 month warranty,

Its 58 plate Z4 Coupe M-sport, manual gearbox, 27k miles, blue with grey leather, few extras such as comfort pack and bluetooth, 1 previous owner, 1 years warranty

My part-ex offer is reasonably good, about £500 short of what I was expecting but I`m happy enough since they are only passing on what ever the highest bid they get from other dealers.

The price of the z4c was £17,950 but the have reduced it to £17,650. I havent seen anything cheaper on autotrader that has a manual gearbox, m-sport version and similar milage.

So what does everyone think?

Thanks for the input

Andy

It sounds good for a 58-plated sport model, but I would ignore any car without xenon headlights.

hello and welcome

only you know what is good for you, it sounds ok, post a link to it then people can have a proper look

Looks like an OK deal to me. Having had a Z4 with and without Xenons, I've got to say the Xenons are not a deal breaker. Yes the lights ar ebrighter but you are limited to auto adjustment which restricts the distance of the beam. I'm not the first to complain about this. I'd prefer halogens quite honestly.

The lower spec may make your new car difficult to move on but don't let that stop you.

poorly spec'd? looks ok to

I agree with Taz,

From the pics extra's include heated seats, mfsw, piano black trim and 108's.

Missing nav and xenons but still a good spec... and i like that colour leather too.

Also being first reg is nov 08 you have just under 1 manufacturers year warranty left.

And coming from a franchise dealer a pretty good price.

It's the classic case of age vs. specification.

There's a 56 plate at Sytner CW with Pro Nav, Cruise, autochanger, Xenons, Comfort, Bluetooth + assist and the same mileage for the same price.

For the age of the car, it's a darn good price. I'm sure it'll make a few on here weep.

Thanks for the input everyone, much appreciated.

On the subject of features, my megane has: keyless entry, keyless start, cruise control, auto dim rear view mirror, xenons, 6 disc changer, LUX pack (full leather interior, arm rest and better trim), electric folding mirrors, auto wipers and auto headlights.

I can live without most of it, autodim mirror and wipers are things I really like and the z4c has them. No xenons is a dissapointment but I will live without them for the price.

I dont think I`ll get them down any further on the price but some road tax and a 2 year service plan thrown in would seal the deal.

Thanks again

Andy

Sounds a good deal Andy, and you`ll certainly enjoy the Zed........ 8)

As a matter of interest, how come you`re getting rid of the R26; I thought they were the dogs b*llox handling-wise ? (not trying to be funny here bud, just interested, as I`ve a few good hot-hatches, just never had the Megane)

upgrade the bulbs it makes a hell of a difference as for nav well im old school i can read a map and if you are reliant on it then buy a hand held i think its a nie looking motor and if your happy with the deal then its a good deal no matter what anyone else says if you do buy it i hope you enjoy it as much as i enjoy mine

I've been to see this car and was disappointed with the condition of the seats looked quite worn. But I'm sure they would sort that

Welcome to the Forum Andy - used purchase checklist in my signature which you might find useful.

The megane is a great car but I had an rx8 before that and theres a feww things I really miss..

The driving position in the megane is poor, you sit high up with little or no bonnet in front of you rather like driving a van while the rx8 was low and you peered out over a long bonnet with the flared wheel arches either side.

The engine note in the menage is flat and the rev limiter seems to be 5900rpm (and I keep bouncing off it) while the rx8 sounded like a cross between a motorbike and a jet engine, changing up at 9,500rpm was amazing! (I had a decat and a sports exhaust fitted so it sounded like the world was about to end)

The build quality is poor, nothings went wrong as such but its constantly rattling and squeeking particularly inthe cold weather where as the Rx8 despite being a bit plasticy was really well finished.

The suspension is stupidly hard to the point where even at 28, it gets right on my t*ts. I know the m suspension is hard but its nothing compared to this thing! ..and it just amplifies the rattles and squeeks!

I think the Z4C will right all these wrongs, I loved the rx8, I only like the R26 :driving:

Adam - Thanks for the heads up on the interior, I never noticed anything so maybe they fixed it but I will check it out on my next visit.

Alan - Thanks - Ive already printed it of and I`m taking it with me on the next visit

This club has been a great resource, thanks to all and merry xmas

Andy

Hi and welcome Andy, mmm I like R26  had a normal Megane, always fancied the R26,have to wait and see when will I buy one.

I'd probably be harsher about this car and you'd be paying a lot for a low spec. late model.

While it's a great 1 owner in a nice colour it's otherwise unremarkable.

It lacks many 'essential' options (and people can argue all day long on this, but price is affected by no Xenons and no sat nav.)
Despite comments above xenons are fully adjustable and a quantum leap over halogen and frankly expected on a performance, high end car.
All the nice to have options are missing from cruise control to uprated audio, etc. etc.

Mileage is fairly high for this sort of car at 27k given it's only 2 years old. (Check the coupe Magicgreg is looking at - 2 years older with 5k less mileage)

I think you could do better for £18k, unless late year, main dealer is your key desire

While I agree completely with the benefits of Xenons and I personally would always want a car with them, there are plenty of high performance, high end cars without them. Try buying a Cayman S of the same vintage with xenons and you'll be looking for a very long time. Does that mean that all the Caymans sit there not being sold? Of course it doesn't. Does it mean that people speccing their Porsche originally were idiots - IMHO, yes it does. But we are where we are, people buying new don't always tick all the desirable boxes, but it doesn't make a car any less useable or enjoyable, especially in sports car land.

So if you can use the lack of options as a bargaining point then all for the good. Personally I would rather have a Z4 with no options at all in a decent colour combo such as this, than a well specced example in one of the more "challenging" colours.

Ive been looking at that deal magicgregg has posted and its seems a good deal too but I`m finding it hard to compare, it has 5,000 miles less and is £3k cheaper but its not the sport model, its got less options and its two years older.

I only do 5k a year so in two years my car will be back under average mileage in two years.

Thanks again for everyones input, its good to hear other peoples views.

The guy at the showroom said that they dont need the initial 1200 mile inspection - is that correct? The only service it has had is the oil service at 17k miles.

Only the Z4M needs the 1200 mile service.

Xenon lights are much better but there aren't that many car around that have them unfortunately. Nav isn't a problem for me, I bought without. Agree with cj10jeeper about the mileage, but if you only do 5k a year then it won't be an issue.

I think it's a car with a pretty fair spec (I bet over 80% of coupes are similarly specced) and the price looks favourable when you compare with others on the BMW website.
