Advice on selling.

It doesn't sound too bad at all :)

You say you bought it in 2012. Did it have an inspection I serviced then by the dealer selling it, or before?

Slightly late for the inspection II isn't such a big deal on it's own. I'm just wondering how old all the other fluids are too!

Yea, Inspection I was done by the previous owner within the milage allowed, again, I'll need to get the book in my hands to be more specific.

Oil change done on the 30/4/2014 and the milage was 50,234, so just over 4k... I'm very careful not to make this an issue, as I've no way to prove this. So I'm basing my price on that the fluids were last done at the dealership.

People making a lot of assumptions due to not the full info being available. I would put up a decent ad with ALL the info of everything done and times. You should be aiming for around £11ish with the other bits you have now mentioned.

Guys what's an 'average' condition MR worth with 54k on the clock in a nice colour combo (which I think this is) and with the usual FSH? Then how much would you knock off for a missed service – for those of you that would still buy it at the right price with a missed service? £500? £750? OP with that figure then you can work out if it's worth spending approx £1.5k sorting it or not. And whether you want the hassle of sorting it all.

Id say between £13.5 and £14.5K with a Full "on time" service history.

So £11k / £11.5k with the bits that need doing and risk factor is probably about right (IMO).

I've got the service book here, thought it was at home.

26.05.2006 Running in check - 1217
28.06.2007 Oil Service and Micro-filter- 12,176
20.10.2008 Inspection I and Micro-Filter- 25,299
02.08.2011 Oil Service - 38,050

This is what is stamped, all work done at Sytner in Cardiff.

4 years since the last service. I'd get the Inspection II (with valve clearance documented) / health check done so the potential buyer has piece of mind.

Advertise it for £12k

+1 for getting the service done for the potential buyers peace of mind ... it'll be an easier sale with the service under it's belt mate. The rest of the stuff, with full disclosure, you could easily leave for the buyer to sort. GLWTS.

Service is a must. I would also get the other bits done. Most buyers won't want to spend time getting them fixed unless they got a really good deal, which means you lose out. Choice is yours as they say.

With the greatest of respect Taz, there's only 16k in terms of miles.

but what you have to think is..... what about if their was/is a needed shim adjustment that the car has been run around on for much longer than needed????

But with BMW service indicator servicing (i.e. what our generation of BMW uses), I'm pretty sure BMW will suggest servicing at indicated service intervals OR 2 year interval, whatever comes first. So this is well and truly over that. What sort of journeys did your wife do in the car, out of interest?

True. 4 years (or 3 if the oil was done with the last MOT) isn't great but 16k is only just over the allowed max of 15k between services so not terrible.

To answer above, journeys all motorway 1 junction then parked. We don't live in a city. My driving was more frisky, scottish B roads.

I don't see how a car that has done lets say 20k over 1 year or a car that's done 5k over 2 years can be comparable. I have a deep mistrust of car companies and dealers, so I'm probably not best placed to comment! :p

Stop wasting your time replying to the posts and put all the info in an advert and either put it up for sale or post it here pre sale. In some posts it sounds a good car albeit needing a bit of tlc in others it sounds like a shitter to avoid.

^^^^^^^^

Very astute advice ....

I would get a service done, dent man and a bit of paint to make the car 95%....

Then put it for sale on Ebay/trader and PH and aim where you want to be.

There is a glut of £13k roadies at the moment,in dealers and private sales...People are bailing as autumn approaches and summer(whatever that is) is dying slowly.......

£13k is where i would price it with work done..

Find a decent respected Indy garage near you and get the Insp 2 done, without a doubt. Any issues can then be highlighted/dealt with by the new owner which if it's in a good shape won't be many if any, and should give you more money in your pocket and more interest. Forget a main dealer service by the way, expensive and pointless now.

TBH mate, I think you've said too much already, my worries would be if your other half is that care-free with the car, did she let the oil warm up before gunning/high revving it? Was she even aware of the oil temp gauge? Does she know what the amber lights mean around the rev counter as it warms up (Not lights to aim for!)? Was she filling with decent fuel or supermarket crap? When was the oil level last checked, was it fully topped up?
Not trying to piss on your parade but after some of the expensive failures on here recently, all legitimate questions a prospective buyer might (should) ask, above and beyond the usual service history stuff.....

Hmm, even the oil service in 2011 was a year late and no proof of any work since then.

Seven years since the last inspection too, sorry but as an S54 engined car, it would have to be very cheap for me, as obviously other corners will have been cut. 10k maybe about right.

Best of luck with the sale :driving:
