Advice on selling options

I've finally applied to have my personal plate retained in preparation for putting my zed up for sale - I've nearly sold it several times in the past but never got as far as changing the plate !

I don't need the money but at the same time on principle it would be more acceptable to sell if I could get a good price.

Regulars here would have seen pics on here - the car is a 2004 3.0SE 28500 miles in exceptional original condition including the interior , FBMWSH up until the last service done about 6 weeks ago by a trusted performance car indy ( 2 yearly oil/brake fluid change ) spec includes Professional Nav , Bluetooth preparation , zenons , M seats , 108's refurbed , Sterling Grey .

My options are

- sell it to WBAC - they have valued it at £7205 - without seeing it ( I think they would be very hard pressed to find anything that is not as described ) .

- advertise it on this forum or PH's or AT for a higher price and see what happens.

-common sense says sell it to WBAC ( if they honour the quote ) but it does grate selling to a dealer ( illogical I know )

You did not get many bites at the asking price last time, and as WBAC is pretty much on it - why not go for that?

Why not advertise on here for same price as WBAC but no offers. Saves on the admin fee as well.

Exactly, possibly your negotiation with buyers is between WBAC & WBAC minus admin fee, no net difference to you

I think you will find that WBAC will be trying to knock down the price when it actually comes to it.

I don't understand why it should "grate selling to a dealer" - is their money any different to a private individual?

Keep in mind that only 4% of WBAC transactions go through at the offer rate (Trading Standards findings). They are targetted to reduce the money you accept by up to 40%.

As soon as you get to the WBAC handover point they have a -£1500 to work from on the valuation. Every little mark or detail change will be used to take money off.

I'm aware of this - my car has no visible marks but no doubt they will try to find the smallest blemish - still worth going to an appointment - if after a visual inspection they try to reduce the quote I can stop it there before they take it out on a test run .

as I said I don't need the money so if it doesn't sell I still have an arguably unique car in terms of condition and mileage ( with the best engine :D )

Go to WBAC and get their offer then and there only then will you know there true offer.

Just for balance of argument when I have my Focus ST for sale back in 2012 I was offered £10,500 trade-in and had it up for £12,495 private.... WBAC gave me just shy of £12,000 and gave me the tax back.

I've sold 2 cars to WBAC and on neither occasion did they take the car for a test drive - it was all done on the visual inspection, associated paperwork and a brief listen to the engine on startup. I was chipped down on scuffed alloys from memory, but they weren't overly critical. Anything they do find though will be quoted at the maximum possible cost to fix. I guess it's down to who you get on the day and how their month's quota is going.
