Advice on new cat

Hi,

I'm in a position where I'm probably going to have to change the cat on my car. It's a 2.0 on a 57 plate. The garage I went to was superb but said he couldn't source an aftermarket one. He said it will be £1200 fitted if he buys it from BMW.

Can anyone suggest a cheaper alternative?

I’d look for one from a breakers before I considered that bonkers price

What is the reason for the change? We talking primary or secondary cat? I know my breaker friend has just broken a facelift 2.0.

I’d go to an exhaust shop and get a sports cat or similar fabricated for less than that

If you have a 2.0l I belive no boddy makes a replacement manifold cat, its only made by BMW.
Sorry to say.
You've no doubt got error code Po420 .
Its not allways the cat.it could be vacuum related or maf related.

I reccomend an east end cat, she will claw you in the face just for looking at her the wrong way.

That looks like a great deal OP!

My E86 has thrown up the amber EML a couple of times in the last year (Codes P0420 and P0430) and I seem to be sorting it by resets, doses of Cataclean, using Super Plus and not using it just to go round the corner to the shops and back!

My local BMW Indy reckons new cats for mine would cost around £2K! So I think I'd explore the options, but having a replacement Cat would be a good Plan B!
