Advice on lowering springs. What setup.

I'm going to order some lowerig springs for my car this week. What setup do you people run who have bought a set?? I've looked at the different types like h&r and eibach. I have a set of 19" lms on my car so would like a nice drop and stance. Pics of different cars with different setups would be nice too. Thanks.

Not done it myself but a few have had issues with 19"'s and rubbing on the wheel arches, just a thought to consider. Eibach's seem to be the flavour as well from what i've seen on here.

I think eibach ones are the more common choice on this forum.

I belive easty027 has the same wheels and is also on eibach springs. IIRC he hasn't had any issues and is happy with them.

the rubbing issues are usually because members have gotten wheels with the wrong offset, wrong profile, wrong tyre width or a mixture of the three (like me - M wheels with M profile on a non-M = rubbing issues). If you're on the right profile and offset then you should be fine IMO.

well i just spotted this car in the for sale section, he has 19" lm reps, i have staggered dish on the back though, he has his lowered 30mm on h&r, looks like a nice stance. what do you guys/gals think?

Looks ok, but I think you'll run into problems with bumps, etc with a 30mm drop. Which springs are you on now?

I'm just on standard suspension for an e85 3.0i. It just has a gap between arch and tyre. It depresses me.

ah same as me then... you have the M-Sport Springs (15mm drop).

I already have had a few instances where i've bad scrapes going over bumps. one quite badly in fact on Friday. Turning right into a road quickly as there was on coming traffic. It was dark so didn't realise there was a dirty bump right at the start of the road!

Can only get worse going lower, but generally I think you'll be ok. Just need to be that little extra careful.

Yer I will be extra carefull. But I'm so particular with my cars. It's going in on Wednesday for full bodywork touch up and mop etc. Can't wait to see her gleaming!

I'm on eibach prokits with stock shocks and the rubber mud guards hit normal height humps all the time, under chassis get hit as well when humps are high. you can't go down or up ramps straight ahead as well, has to be one tire at a time :x

Take note that the eibachs are not properly rated for the stock shocks, therefore you'll experience some detachment in rebounding especially noticeable at highway drops and also on the track. will be switching to bilstein B8s soon as i wear the stock shocks

I'm on Eibach Prokit springs with the sports suspension and running 8.5J & 9.5J/19's and have experienced no rubbing or bottoming issues whatsoever in relation to when the suspension was standard.

as Peddy has said its all about getting the wheel in the correct size (offset).

I know a11y Runs on Eibachs with 18" elips, never heard him mentioning any issues, His cars Stance looks good with minimal arch gap. in fact so much so it has convinced me to go for the eibachs although I will have 17"103s so still expect to have a larger arch gap.

Not quite right nosa! :wink:

16" with 225/50/16 = 315.7mm radius
17" with 225/45/17 = 317.2mm radius
18" with 225/40/18fr = 318.6mm radius
18" with 255/35/18rr = 317.8mm radius

So you'll have the same arch gap to within 0.8mm on 17"s with Eibachs as you will 18"s with Eibachs.

I've got no experience of H&R on a Z4, but they were great on my Clio (although that was coilovers and not just springs). But they're good enough for Porsche and others to use as original equipment, and I've just lowered my van (yes, a van) on H&R springs and the ride's superb

depends what's a better ride for you but:

eibach prokits are known to have the closest to stock ride quality, softer to some even. height is also not as low compared to direct competitor h&r spring

h&r however are known to be the harsher ride, and lower than direct competitor eibach spring
