advice on hids

Looking to fit hids can anyone reccomend any also what wattage do i need i thought all cars were 55w but seen some 35w do they make a difference
Cheers

Went for 35 W as I personally think you only increase the glare with higher.

Get a slim kit from hidsdirect and it will fit comfortably inside the headlight on the Z. I had 5000 K originally but have since changed to 4300 K as I found higher to be more tiring on my eyes after a long drive.

I'd also be thankful for some advice on HIDs as i've discovered the standard headlights seem a bit poor, will fitting a HID kit for the dipped lights make much of a difference?

Any issues for MOTs etc?

Is this the relevant kit?

Would the 50w slim not be brighter ??? Also which 35w is better the h7r or h7 ??

Yes, the 50 W burners will give off more light but from everything I've seen there is a lot more glare. It may mean that you don't need any canbus ballasts as they would be only 10% off of a standard 55 W Halogen bulb though.
The HID output is always going to be brighter than Halogen (at least double) even at 35 W. H7R seem to be designed to combat glare in reflector headlamps - I don't think they would be effective in projectors.

The standard Halogen are terrible - I didn't believe it and thought some upgrade bulbs would solve the issue. They won't and they're not cheap! With HID kits at around £55 and replacement burners at £12.50 a pair (with a longer life than upgrade bulbs) it's a no-brainer.

They weren't mentioned in my MOT - I was quite careful getting the aim right though and do have headlamp washers.
I'd check with the direct, the kit I got looked more like the 55 W versions, i.e. just the ballast without the additional black boxes on the leads.

cool, I'll drop them an email for some advice.

Yeah - I've gone from a 2013 Fabia to a 2008 Z4 and when I was driving home the other night I had to double check that I wasn't just running on side lights :?

It does seem a relatively cheap mod to get quite a bit of difference.

One important thing is how good and clean your halogen projectors are.
I tell little story. My wife had mk2 facelift clio with oem xenon lights, light output was poor even with new hid bulbs. I took front bumper off, and whole light assembly away from car.
Then i took it to parts. I found out that xenon projector glass was dirty in both sides. I cleaned it with towels and glass cleaner spray foam. After that, assembled all with new bulbs and light power was so bright and good i was having real success feeling.

So one thing you should check is that projector condition and if you look it close enough you can see if it dirty or clear inside. No any idea to install hid conversion kit if projector is bad or dirty.

Good effort! Amazing difference, though I'm not sure getting the lens out is easy, I had enough faff replacing the vertical adjustment arm.
