Hi guy's.
Just looking for ideas possible answers !
Ever since buying the car I had a noise on the car I thought it was the tyre's but I replaced wheels and tyres so it's not them .
It's almost like a bearing noise starts about
20 mph gets a little louder and stays there .
No difference when I turn left or right .
It does go when the road is very smooth .
I done the wheel bearing checks etc .
My car is an auto so I got it to about 50 and popped it into neutral and let it roll and it's still there . :headbang:
It's been in garage to no avail . I'm off to europe in Sept so wanted to try resolve this .
Any ideas as to how to pinpoint it ?
If its the diff / g box / bearing . Etc
Any help would be great . .
It's already just had rear brembo discs n pads
And the shoes are like new .
Greg.

I'd still have the wheel bearings checked at a good independent - they'll know. My specialist independent was turned to after 4 returns to the garage I bought my 2 litre from. They kept stripping stuff down and kept saying they couldn't find anything. I took my Zed to the independent and he was quietly confident diagnosed and sorted; never had a problem after.
Hope it's a straight forward for you . . .

Cheers Paul .
I have almost had them done twice now but
The noise is not the typical bearing noise I
Have had before .
My garage just said wait till it's more obvious.
Re my post for suggestions.
Greg.

Hi guys .
Well today I have had a good mooch to see if I can find the source of the noise .
So climes in the boot and asked the wife to shut me in and take the car for a run . :o
There was no noise from the back end of the car like I have been hearing . :D .
I then dropped the roof and could not hear the noise . Put the roof up and it's back again
So I decided what I can hear is wind noise from
Some part that is either vibrating or something
Like that .
Bit of a relief it wasn't diff or g box .
Have to say it wasn't nice locked in the boot.
Pretty scary  .

Hi
Only had the same problem. I thought at first handbrake shoes rubbing. So stripped cleaned copper slipped and adjusted. But noise still there.
Stripped down again removed disc turned hub by hand no noise, re-fitted disc spun noise had returned but couldn't see any signs of contact from disc anywhere.
Made a cup of tea.
Ok back to it!
I removed the leading and trailing edge from the handbrake shoes, cleaned the grove on the rear of the disc which meets with a raised edge on back plate then using a old socked extention bar tapped the raised edge on back plate gently all the way around to gain just a few millimetres. Hey noise gone.

Cheers I think you may of just found my problem  .
When you say removed leading edge and trailing edge of the shoes exactly how and where do you mean ? .
Thanks for the heads up on this I'm beginning
To loose the plot with this noise .
I was going to get the car on a rolling road to
See if it was indeed wind noise or not .
Cheers

Hey
It almost drove me nuts too.
Hope this pic shows you. The shoe part that makes contact with the drum. Mine had separated from the main shoe about 10 millimetres just chiped it away and using a scrapper took of the edge so it was rampped shapped.
Hope this helps. Dont forget to knock back the back plate at the raised edge ( only 1 to 2 millimetres is needed ) the couples with the disc.

After ummmmming and arrrrrrring I decided to book the car in the garage to sort this noise out
So I have this weekend to do the brake shoe and raised lip adjustment , if no joy , it's in on Monday .
With my European trip in 10 weeks I would like
It done and dusted.

Damm... wondering is that's what I'm hearing from my back end. It seams to be coming from rear right hand side. Same with you guys? I just had my brakes replaced.

Well yesterday I took the rear brakes apart .
Cleaned everything made sure nothing is catching reset the handbrake properly.
The noise is still there , my car has two weeks warranty left so into the garage in the morning.
The only thing I can see it a little uneven tyre wear on the back .
I had a full hunter geo a few weeks ago the tyre's are a few months old yet the coloured lines that run round the tread the inner line has gone but the outer line is still there ,not sure if this is right but we shall see .
:headbang:

Well today I am currently out for a drive with
Dare I say almost total quiet car just slightly hear the noise but I really have to try hard .
I did spray arosol copper grease down behind the plate where the drive shaft goes into the hub . This just may of gotten into the bearing
Hense less noise .
It would still suggest bearing issue so still going in garage tomorrow .

I have had a similar noise to you in my coupe, had everything checked and all was ok. I believe that it's down to the tyres making the noise as it comes in around the 60mph speed.

Hi guys .
It went in garage this morning and they could hear the noise but not pinpoint it so left they with it .
They checked the diff and the diff oil . Nothing .
Checked the wheel bearing no play in either .
So can't find it . :headbang: .
I decided to tell them change both wheel bearings .
With my European trip coming up I can live with a noise on the diff but to risky to do a few
Thousand miles with possible dodgy bearing
I'm beginning to think I bought the wrong car !

Wheel bearings on the zed can start to fail and make noise with no visible signs of play. On older cars you can get play and feel the bearing going as its a single bearing. The zed has a different type (sorry I can't remember what it's called). Basically it's like having two bearings on each side with the shaft going through both. Because the bearings hold the shaft in two places there is less "play" even when worn. I had a NSR bearing go on my car. No play in the wheel yet a low grumble and when inspected with a stethoscope you could easily hear it. Hope that helps.

P.s it's an expensive job (£200 a side for the rear) if I remember right so hopefully your warranty covers it.

I suspected bearing from start but it's not that loud as to pinpoint exact and no play .
The garage threw in the diff or prop bearing .
My car has 34000 on the clock so diff unlikely
As I also can't change the noise while playing
With acceleration etc .
The prop bearing is forward of my seat I think so it's unlikely as the noise is behind .
With all this mind and no real answer I told them to change both rear bearing cost £320 .
This way I can rule out the bearing totally.
The garage said the warranty is of no use they always wriggle out . Ie wear and tear etc
I think the bearing would not be covered I just hoped if it was diff or gearbox I would be OK under warranty.

Hi guys .
Got the car back last night .
The rear bearings was creamed I could
Pull the inside of the bearings out on both sides so much play in them .
So at least that was not a big wast of money .
Had to have rear drop links also .
 .
