I test drove both. Opted for the 3.0. Much more pulling power and after 3,000rpm in 2nd gear feels like warp speed. I came from a 3 series (18) and anything 6 cylinder was bound to feel quick.
Fuel economy, there's nothing in it.
All down to your choice though. 2.5 will be plenty for most people.
