Advice needed! i have received a NOIP

I always keep that distance to the car in front (mostly for stone chips but also to avoid having to brake at the same time as the car in front - usually for no reason ...). However, driving to Bournemouth yesterday I was getting fed up that in heavy traffic, every single car cuts right in front of you as you left a gap. So had to drive like the rest of them to avoid that happening ....

But as the chap last night running it pointed out...

Each time someone cut in front you slow down to maintain the gap.. you loose 2 seconds each time.

If driving from Derby to London = 25 jn on the M1.. if this happened once between every jn you'd lose 1 minute for the entire journey!!

It is not about the time - it is the frustration, especially if they "float in" and then slow down so I have to brake again ....

I do Derby to London a lot for work (A38, M6 Toll, M42, M40, M25) 150 odd miles.

From what i learnt last night doing 75mph is pointless as i will only get there 5 mins faster for a 2.5 hour journey.. however at 100mph i will get there 30 mins faster... so a 2 hr journey.. think i know the way forward now :evil:

Another point. If you only accelerate past 70 once and don't slow down below that speed then technically you have only broken the speed limit once

Since my 30 minute commute was stretched to 2 hours this morning by some penis in a Range Rover driving into the back of someone I wish they would introduce those speed awareness courses up here north of the border. I absolutely hate people that don't leave a big enough gap.

You wouldn't like the German Autobahn on a Friday night in the fast lane! Feeler gauges needed to measure the car to car gap in the outside lane at 100mph! I got back to my hotel mentally drained.

Haha , thought that reaction to the autobahn's was just me after looking forward to the experience once there it was mentally & physically exhausting ,
After 90 mins i was happy to give my co-driver the keys , i was utterly wrung out , flying along at 125mph only to find a constant stream of large benz ,bmw or audi all wanting to shovel you out of the way , , an experience for sure :?

I also thought it was me being a softie!
The trick is to avoid a Friday night - its not quite as bad other days.
Its a dilemma tho, do you stay in lane one at 50mph with the heavies? Lane two at 70/80 mph and have the odd eastern European heavy pull out suddenly or mix it with the fast boys in lane three?

I deserved the beer when I got to the hotel. ( I was in the zed, at least I could keep up with the flow)

Amazon just delivered the latest version of Roadcraft. Should be an interesting read. I want to see what the guidance is for dealing with lane hogging, tail gating etc (if it's in there)
