Advice for VERY tall future owner

Hi All,

Am finally starting to look at Zeds on the market, but have hit a bit of an issue.

1st car I sat in, I was just okay for space. Not exactly rattling around in there, but comfortable as I can expect to be in a 2 seater, (I am a 6'6" ex rugby player after all)!

2nd car I sat in, I couldn't even shut the door, knees jammed up against dash etc. BIG disappointment.

Now I need your help to determine what caused this, as I don't want to waste my time going to visit cars to find I don't fit...

Ist car was standard SE, electric seats, etc.
2nd car was a facelift, manual sports seats, nav, etc.

Now I've had a couple of thoughts on this and am hoping I can get some confirmation on my thoughts, or any other info you can share.

1. Are the sports seats deeper than the standard SE seats, therefore not allowing them to slide back as far?
2. Do any of the optional audio upgrades include subs behind/under the seats that would again restrict their rearward movement?

I understand that for most people, a missing inch or so on the seat runners wouldn't be noticeable, but for me, every single bit counts!

Hi, good luck with the search.

Audio option (subs etc) won't affect this. The steering column can move in 3D axis so did you mess about with that in both cars or leave alone? That could have been an issue? I've never compared the two seats together but my m seats have very thin bases , someone with non-m swats might be able to add ...

Edit ... Forgot to add you did change the height of the seat as well as sliding it back too?

Hm, I don't know the answer but I own a pre facelift SE and my dad who is a leggy 6'4 with an inside leg of 36" fits comfortably.

This was debated only recently & after having a 6ft / 17 stone (my guess ) guy view my coupe recently it was plainly not the car for him
To say he fit "snug" would be understating the facts
Perhaps a roadster with roof down would make the situation a little easier
I took a pal out in mine just after i bought it , he's 6,3 /16 stone & 15 mins was verging on the claustrophobic

Yep,

Played around with wheel adjustment. With regard to seat height, I tried all combinations of sliding seat back with it raised up, then lowering it, sliding it back fully lowered, but no joy either way.

Bit of a puzzle!

I have a similar problem at 6ft5 and 20 stone.... The M sport seats do need a little more fiddling to get right than the standard seats. For me, I have to tilt the back forwards, then lower and move all the way to the back, then tilt the back as far as it will then go. Also, make sure you are dropping the front and the rear of the seats, and maybe slide the extra 'tray' for knee support back in...

Lastly, pull the wheel out and up to get more room... it moves it further along the leg, and therefore less in the way of the knees.

I probably look like an elephant riding a tricycle... but it's worth the effort.

PS - I also wear Merrell "glove" shoes, which really do help.

Your height must be in your body ( so to speak ) - I'm 6'7" ( long legs ) not particularly lean ( weighing in at 15 1/2 stone ) and fit easily in my E85 SE - M seats - obviously seat right back and lowered to max !

Like you not many sports cars fit my frame - MX5 ( forget it ! ) 350z ( OK ish ) M100 Lotus Elan ( fitted surprisingly well ) Elise ( you must be joking )

You don't have to be big to be beautiful but it helps

That's interesting to hear. I've got a 35/36" inside leg, so fairly evenly split top/bottom half I think. Although I'm 18 stone plus, so might be sitting slightly 'On' rather than 'in' the M sport seats....

Out of the cars on your list I had different experiences, (agree on MX-5 and Elise), but 350z and M100 were both discounted for being too small for me...

Gah being tall is a pain sometimes!

Ditto with 36" inside leg - the 350z was the coupe version - had the M100 for 3 years - not as roomy as the zed but plenty of headroom with the roof up and 6'4" wide ! different car altogether compared with zed but pretty exclusive and doesn't depreciate if you can ever find a good one. Loved the car.
