Hi folks
Just a quick question.
Car just got back from service at garage.
Cracked alloy (style 326) 19 inch BMW wants £900.
Alloys could do with refurb anyhow so am a bit concerned it will look odd?
Any suggestions?
Many thanks

Z4 E89 2016 sDrive20i

That’s bloody expensive for a new one, normally around £650 from BMW.

Nothing to do with me but an undamaged rear (a rare thing) needing a light refurb

Got 3 of those in shed as put other wheels on my e89, one rear , 2 front , Not cracked will be on e bay soon was powder coated a while ago

firstly thats too bad. 326s do look ace but they are fragile. Are you running Run flat tyres? first port of call would be to ditch them and put normal tyres on, otherwise you'll continue to crack rims.

secondly, £900 for one wheel is a bit keen. you can get a brand new set of 4 aftermarket wheels for that, and then sell on the other three on ebay.

lastly, if you do get new wheels, you might wanna consider dropping the size to 18s... better ride and cheaper tyres.

£650 inc vat at bmw for one alloy, I would ditch the run flats too, get a new set of after market and recoup some cash on the sale of the originals

If it was my alloy and the tyre was holding air pressure I’d take it to a reputable wheel restoration centre and see if it could be professionally repaired.

Yes its running run flats. Rear set tyres only 12 months old but front need doing. So it seems its a repair, new 326 rear wheel or change all 4 and ditch run flats. Cracked wheel is holding pressure.
Thanks for tips folks.

Reliability informed by Forum members that 326Ms don’t crack anymore than any other alloy wheel… :tumbleweed: :fuelfire: :poke:

I sold my set once I repaired the damaged one for £1,350 inc good run flats…went with aftermarket alloys, non run flats..40,000 miles later over a lot of very potholed Scottish roads no cracks or dents..(save my kerbing :headbang: )

A lot cheaper option than some.
You could get the damaged one welded, if done well they can be stronger than original. Admittedly I personally don't like the idea.

Has there ever been reports of cracked 326 wheels while running on Non Runflats?

Or, has anyone heard of aftermarket wheels cracking like the OEM stuff seems to?

Ron there are multiple threads on multiple car forums of big wheels with low profile tyres cracking or warping; it's not exclusive to 326s or BMW.

I think this formula works:
Big cheap cast wheels + low profile tyres + stiff suspension + heavy car + British roads = high likelihood of damaging wheels
RFTs are bound to exacerbate the problem, due to the reduced 'cushioning'.

It's always a great feeling getting a set of wheels refurbished. Here's mine in Ferrari Silver.

I’m trying to cost the value of changing to non runflats long before the tyre must be changed (5.0mm)

I was contemplating changing to Michelin P s

I found moving to non RFTs and fitting Eibach springs completely transformed the car. I sold my RFTs for good money on eBay so the dent on the wallet wasn't so bad.

I've actually caught the wheel refurbishment bug 🤣. Hope you don't mind me posting here, but I spent just £30 a wheel for this refurbishment.. the transformation is incredible. It's a 4x4 project car, so didn't pay the kind of money I did for the 326 wheels (took those to a different specialist)...
