Advice and thoughts on my 'For sale' advert please guys.

Evening guys. I was hoping you friendly and knowledgeable lot would run an eye over my advert for my Z4 3.0Si Coupe. The listing is on PH and also on the owners site here but I'll post the direct link:

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/bmw/z4-coupe/bmw-z-series-z4-si-sport-coupe------------2007/5792148?v=c

Thoughts on the actual content of the advert such as am I waffling too much etc and the price as well would be really appreciated.

Thank you as always, Benji.

I would drop all the waffle & especially the bit where you haven't bonded & prefer VWs
Just list a brief description of what the car is IE 3.0 Si Sport 6cylinder 262bhp ( i would also mention yearly tax cost as its decent performance without the £500 wallop ! )
Highlight the basic spec + anything above that such as the sought after piano dash trim
Then its the location problem which like or not will hit your sale prospects & perhaps adding a note RE the price being negotiable with regards the expenses of actually getting to you & the car home .
I have to say it looks a top example of a ZC & sub 50k cars are getting harder to find .
The colour combo is stunning (imo) & for that a buyer who really knows what he's after should not be put off with your location
Best of luck & happy to remove any of the above

Thank you very much for taking the time to look at the advert and write me such a comprehensive response. I was kind of hoping you'd look at this one as I know you are personally very knowledgeable about these cars and the market for selling. I will sit down in the morning and amend the advert appropriately to get it a bit more streamlined. I think ultimately my location is going put people off, which is a shame as it's really quite handy.

Thank you also for the kind words about the car. It's going in for a professional detail on Thursday so the bodywork will look even better. :)

Good advice from Mr W - in particular about getting rid of the irrelevant waffle.

I'd suggest two other things

1. Are you aware that everyone can see your home address on the V5?

2. Why have you obscured the number plate? It's a pet hate of mine. How are potential buyers going to HPI it? Whenever I see obscured number plates I always wonder what the seller is trying to hide? Make it easy for people to buy from you.

Otherwise a beautiful car that's well priced.

1. I didn't realise that and it's a pretty stupid mistake to make on my part so thank you for that, I'll get it sorted in the morning.

2. I'll be honest I didn't even think of the HPI check and just did it because I had seen lots of other adverts doing it but I definitely see your point. I can't even argue it's for security given point 1!

Thanks for the feedback it's greatly appreciated.

FWIW OP I would have to agree with the points others have made about cutting some content, and definitely wouldn't mention any preference for VAG products!

I would also remove my address (even if that means modifying the photo with the V5) but as has been said why not show the registration number?

BTW that is a fantastic car with a spec I would have loved (but couldn't afford)!

Maybe you need to highlight the options so they stand out more, either in the header or perhaps in capitals in the (hopefully reduced!) text - as in Champagne Nappa leather, Piano Black trim, Xenons, heated seats, multi-function steering wheel, plus any others like pdc, cruise, etc. more strongly than the standard bits like auto. lights and electric seats with driver's memory although they still deserve a mention for those that aren't familiar with Z4C's.

Sadly your location probably doesn't help - I travelled from Berkshire to Rugby for my Montego Blue Coupe, but didn't want to travel to Cornwall to see another one (after all you are realistically looking at doing the trip twice, once to view and hopefully buy then again to collect).

FWIW if someone calls you asking for the last 7 characters of the VIN No. don't be surprised - I did that so I could check the original spec on VIN Checker!

I hope that is useful - just working on what I was looking for with my purchase last month - my signature gives some clues!

Would love to wish you good luck, but then you'll have to leave us! :?

Out of my price range when i bought my coupe last year but for me an absolute timeless colour combo and a stunning car. When the coupes become classics im sure this is the colour everyone will want. Best of luck with the sale.

I think most dealers also obscure the number plate, I always thought it was to hamper any customer from getting valuations which could then be used to barter with the dealer, assuming they are lower than his.

Thank you Mr Tidy, you make some very good points. I realise I have missed some very basic stuff with this advert! I appreciate the helpful comments and have put my wrongs to right now. Cheers.

thank you to every one who has taken the time to check out the advert and give me some advice. I have streamlined the advert and got the key features and spec in there properly. Also edited/ changed the photos so hopefully it is looking a lot better now. Thanks again everyone. I have always found this to be a very helpful and friendly forum.

I hope he is right about Montego blue, but ideally with Pearl Grey rather than champagne!

Just make sure you don't do what I did and agree to sell it, then realise you shouldn't have - which is why I had to go and find another! :headbang:

I must say I didn't know you could get pearl grey leather in the Z. I bet it looks stunning contrasting against the Montego blue. I probably will regret it some day haha.

One of the reasons why people cover there number plate when selling, is because if some low life has nicked a car in the same colour , they just get a copy of a plate from a "legit" car , by just checking classifieds for the same car/colour (particularly for uncommon cars that they're not likely to see one the same in the next street!) and then drive around untroubled by the police/ANPR.

It happens more than you appear to realise!!

Nice car, good spec.
Just the 3 services may put the more knowledgeable buyers off.
As above be more succinct.
I traded my 07 coupe, similar spec, age and miles for £10,500 in Oct so perhaps a little hopeful with the price?

Thank you. I know what you mean about the servicing but I guess I'll just have to live with that one. At least from the documentation it appears to have been well looked after. I am considering bringing the price down too as I think you are right and I'm being too optimistic about the market value. Cheers bud for the feedback.

No problem, don't knock it too much. If you want the details of the BMW Sytner buyer who bought my car from me, pm me. He might be able to do a similar value deal for you, but I think it should be worth £11k ish privately to the right buyer.
