Advanced Crash Safety Module

Afternoon all,

I've got my 2007 E85 3.0si in for an MOT and the garage has said I need an new ACSM unit. I've got a couple of options available but wondered which is the best route to take. As the garage is not able to fully clear all errors from the ACSM I could potentially send the unit to a 3rd party company and get them to clear all the data or order another from eBay and hope it's plug and play. Would the new unit need coding to my VIN (not sure my garage has the software to resolve this).

Any help is appreciated.

My 2007 E86 needed a new airbag ECU (previous owner removed it?!)

I got one off eBay with a suitable part number, and was able to code it to the car easily enough. I used BMW Scanner 1.4.0 to easily set the VIN, and then NCS expert to set the relevant options (like seat occupancy sensor, airbag deactivation etc)

It won't be plug and play, sadly, if the options differ. The one I bought was coded for passenger air bag deactivation, which my car didn't have, so that threw an error light up due to open circuit on the switch

Ah good to know

Every facelift I’ve swapped must have been like for like options…
