I'm looking for something a little more advanced than iPhoto but not a complex as full blown photoshop to use on my iMac

photoshop elements may well fit the bill and at around £65-£80 won't break the bank

anyone with experience have any opinions to share please?

thanks

Yes - download the free trial and play. Check that it does what you need.

Elements will get you going to do some basic editing, but Creative Cloud Photography package from Adobe - £8.59 per month gets you Lightroom and Photoshop CC.

Lightroom gives you great basic (and non-destructive) editing - I use it for 80% of my work. Its a lot simpler to use than PS.
If you're doing just a handful of photos then Elements but I'm not sure how much more you get than with iPhoto. If you're doing more then LR and for some serious editing use PS. LR/PS work as an integrated toolset so you can swap one to the other.

I have Elements 12 which I find quite good.I have the pc version, the Apple version gives you more options.
I went on a night school course to get the best out of the package. With Elements 13 you don't buy the package outright,it's on a subscription basis. Now I have used the elements if I had the money I would buy the cs 5 or 6.

+1, also use both these, excellent products. Free 30 day trial to boot

Its what I use and I mainly use it for basic editing. I wish I could do a course for it as it is much more powerful than how I use it. Dip your toe in with the free trial that others have mentioned, you will not regret it.

There are some online videos as well, they are pretty useful to get up to speed with the products:

Photoshop: linky
Lightroom: linky

But yeah, agree about the advanced stuff as I also don't use it anywhere near to its capabilities.
